Origins: The Cursed Hearts?

From Scenic Reflections

I should mention that this idea is evolving as I type.  It popped into my head this morning as I read more poems and stories about love.  Pandora with its songs about women, love, broken hearts, and whatnot didn’t help.  My mind turned its hamster wheel, which reminds me that I need to feed the thing.  The result is the following idea that might be put into Project Phoenix:

A man and woman are cursed lovers.  Both are adventurers, heroes, or something like that.  Their quests is, of course, to break the curse and live happily ever after.  I have to figure out the curse and one unique idea I have is plain strange.  They can only hear each other. To each other they are invisible and they pass through each other if they try to touch with the body.  They can still accidentally hit each other with a blunt object, a weapon, or a spell.  To everyone else, they are both visible and touchable, so it makes for some awkward situations.  This makes fighting alongside each other rather difficult because how do you swing a sword with confidence if your lover could be standing in front of you.  I would need to carefully pick their powers too because Project Phoenix means they’re Mylrixians (superheroes of Windemere) They would need a system to locate each other.

Reason for curse could be a coven of ex-lovers or jealous people or maybe someone that believes their child will be a powerful agent of good.  That does lead into to a great hero to join Serum in his series.  I’m making this up as I go along.  I don’t even know where to begin with the cure.  I do know that I don’t want to go tragedy because it feels like everyone goes for the tragic ending these days.  Not to get into this rant, but when did everyone want to be the edgy author that gave their protagonists an unhappy ending?  I’m at the point where a happy ending is more surprising than an unhappy one.

I’ve wanted to try a cursed lover idea before, but it always got swallowed up by a bigger story.  The Project Phoenix system of stand-alone stories instead of a big, on-going storyline could help this one blossom.  I’d have to learn more about romance writing, minus the erotica part.  It would depend a lot on dialogue, but that’s one of my specialties.

So, that’s a new idea that’s brewing while I haven’t touched any of the other 40 ideas.  I have issues.

Cancer

A fantastic poem by Helen Valentina. To everyone who is or has battled this modern day demon.

Helen's avatarhelenvalentina

An errant cell mutates
And quickly finds its mate
They grow and grow
And so it goes
Until
You’re suddenly feeling ill

These new cells are defined
Uniquely re-designed
Proliferate
At such a rate
You see
Yourself in entropy

Surgery and radiate
To firmly stop the rate
Of such growth
It’s our oath
To God on high
That only bad cells die

I pray recovery
Will finally set you free
From this dark pain
So you regain
Your health
The greatest form of wealth

Day 5……the week is coming to an end soon; .99 cents anyone?

Day 5 of the week long sale. Get Rise of a Queen, Book One of The Vampire Realm Series for .99 cents.

JS Riddle's avatarJ.S. Riddle

It should be more than a countdown at this point.  After the 7th day the book goes up again.  Who wouldn’t want to start their summer off right?  Who of your friends haven’t read it and are looking for something different to read?

Big Question.  What would you choose.  Submit to the vampire culling, become a rebel IF you survive it, or work your way into becoming a vampire itself?  Those are the questions you should ask yourself.  Some prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse (I know I am) but has anybody prepared for a world where Vampires ruled the earth?  We’re not talking preparing to take over. It WILL happen.  In my book at least.  Check it out after you read the reviews.

*Spoiler* “What the F*&^ Have You Done Lately?” (Warning: Cursing, Violence, and Gore in video. Rated-R)

First, I’d like to say that this is to no one in particular.  There is no intention to offend here.

For those that don’t know, there is a movie called ‘Wanted’ starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman.  It’s about assassins and the video that is about to come up is the ending.  As stated, it has violence, gore, cursing, and it’s the ending, so it’s a spoiler.  It’s also several years old.

Now, I have a special love of this movie even though it’s over the top and occasionally a little hard to follow.  At least that’s what I’ve been told since I never had a problem with it.  Wesley (McAvoy) is a cubicle monkey without a footprint in the world.  He’s pathetic and beaten by the world.  This was my life for a time.  Miserable, lost, and placed in a box for most of the week.  When I got out of this rut, I found this movie on television and watched it long enough to realize I hated the censored version.  So, back I went into the cubicle world.

Eventually, I really started breaking and jumped into full-time writing.  This time, I intentionally watched the movie.  I didn’t know why it caught my eye.  It was that last line that part of me remembered:

‘What the fuck have you done lately?’

Sure, it’s crass and insulting, but it really helps me at times.  I get told to stop or given the odds of making a living on my books every day.  I’m aiming for something big here.  I’m not that guy who thinks being an author will be a fun hobby.  I’m the guy who looks at his books as his legacy and plans on leaving his mark.  I’m the cubicle monkey that had enough of rotting in a box. I went on about destiny yesterday and my own path is why I think the way I do about it.  You can mock me, but I do feel destined to be an author.  I just have to work my ass off to grab the dream and never let it go.  Again, that quote really drives home the fact that many people who try to stop me, haven’t done a goddamn thing beyond simple survival.  To those people, I do sincerely ask:

‘What the fuck have you done lately?’

Well . . . That Went Terribly

Ever have a night where things don’t go well?  It’s 11:30 PM and this night should have seen me get a little work done.  Instead:

  1. I brushed my teeth and then grabbed a soda on the way to the computer.  Genius!
  2. Pandora has opted to die on me.
  3. Soda has been watered down by the melted ice.  Mmmmmmm Cherry Vanilla Coke Water.

Guess I’ll watch a few Zero Punctuation videos on Youtube and pass out at midnight.  Long day ahead of me tomorrow.

And I epically bombed my goals for this week due to the melancholy.  Got half a chapter done instead of 2, missed my biking for every day but today, and no work on the outline.  Doesn’t matter how you look at that one.  This has been a horribly off week, but I guess I need one of those from time to time.
