A big thank you to everyone who participated in the blog tour. I hope everyone had fun. Now for the last two volunteers:
Fritz & Bessaria By Kayla Matt
This talented and hard-working woman needs no introduction . . . but the ninja squirrels sitting outside the window tells me I should say something. Go visit Readfulthings and check out all of the reviews, debuts, and literary fun. Just bring a cupcake and remember to be polite.
What better way to end a blog tour than the announcement of a new author’s upcoming debut?
Outside is dangerous.
Such is the warning Koral has heard for twelve years. Born a product of genetic manipulation, he knows little else of the world beyond the steel walls of his home.
When fate gives him the choice between certain death and the unknown, there’s no question in what he must choose. But he’s about to find out the sands he must brave are full of more than mere monsters.
Providing the desert doesn’t kill him first.
This is a world ruled by instinct, where innocence is drowned in blood. Here, men are offered up to the great Serpent God, Lorric, only to emerge as the most feared killers on the planet: The Rogues.
With the god’s sights set on turning Koral into a legend, he must sacrifice himself to survive and be reborn as…
Aldrea Alien’s first book will be live on April 22nd and by the look of the cover art and the blurb, I think it will be awesome. You can get 1 of 4 signed copies by joining in here Goodreads Giveaway:
I got a much bigger turn out than expected, so I apologize now for the long posts. Hope those that read through enjoy it. First set comes from Bastet:
Crigofelt
A species of cat that can only be found in the city of Brildo. The appear like other types of cats, but they move like puddles of liquid. People try not to step in them, but it’s very difficult. If you do then you will find claw marks on your shoes or foot. Best not to walk around barefoot. In cat form, the Crigofelt are incredibly soft and love to cuddle. Nobody knows where they came from, but these creatures will ‘adopt’ a family. Scientists have noted that the targets are primarily people who live alone and families with small children. It is rumored that they live off body heat, which is why they love hugging.
Ambleoffal
A type of undead that reeks of alcohol and moves like a drunk. In fact, these creatures are born from those who die while drunk. They mumble and slur their groans, which makes them more comical than menacing. They’re not that dangerous. Ambleoffals are easily distracted by alcohol and have been known to break into bars. They will even drink from the tap while being beaten with blunt objects. Never give an Ambleoffal water because it will explode and release an infection that kills brain cells.
Miserestly
When you do something that is cheap and you smile while doing it. Example: He miserestly left a bad tip for the overworked waitress.
Lambedam
An irritating worm that can be found on the bottom of Lake Lam. This creature is covered in barbs to defend against predators, but it is a nuisance for the citizens who swim, bathe, and fish in the lake. The name comes from when people didn’t know the worms existed and thought the lake was possessed. When injured, a person would yell ‘Lam Be Damned!’ in order to avoid being cursed. With the discovery of these gray worms, the people are no longer scared. They are highly irritable and get some joy out of tricking visitors into swimming in the lake.
A wooden weapon used by the people of G’bo. It is remarkably flexible and difficult to break since you can bend it in half without damaging it. The Swikheller is used like a sword even though it resembles a staff. It isn’t edged, so there is minimal risk of dismemberment. Due to the flexibility and durability, this weapon can strike with enough force to shatter bones. The citizens use it for cracking open coconuts and the thick skulls of the local bears. Coconut and bear brain stew is a local delicacy.
Xompin
A tropical penguin that has sharp teeth and a long beak. It is colored to blend into the water, but this is to sneak up on prey instead of hide from predators. A colony of Xompin will hunt in a swarm and take down larger animals. They have been known to go after shark, seals, squid, and baby whales. They drive their beaks into their prey to create blood loss and chomp at the insides before pulling out. Locals use special goggles when diving in order to see Xompin and escape the area.
Thibskin
The greasy remains of a Thib’s shed skin. Nobody has ever seen a Thib, but these remains are found in the countryside of Pulbi every full moon. The only reason people know these are shed skin is because there is no blood to show signs of an attack. Anyone who has attempted to witness the Thib has gone missing.
Awfrong
The creature is an entire ‘palm tree’ with baby monkeys sitting among the fronds. The ‘aw’ comes from the noise kids make when they see the cute ‘animals’. The ‘frong’ is the noise this predator makes when its mouth erupts from the ground in front of the main body. It is easy to kill with fire because its roots trap it in place, but you have to destroy every ‘monkey’ to make sure it doesn’t breed. These spores will try to run away at the first touch of flame.
Qoaptoggle
A marsupial where the father has a pouch with a front and back entrance, making part of its abdomen a hollow path for young. Within the hollow are the nipples that the babies can suckle on while the father moves. Females have pouches too, but pack them full of flowers and other sweet-scented items to help them attract a mate. A Qoaptoggle is a mammal, but it has a scaly hide and moves on six powerful legs. Its head resembles that of an anteater and it feeds solely off green ants. To get into the mountainous homes of their favorite food, they have drill-like tails and vacuum tongues.
First, I’m going to be a rarity for at least today. Working by iPhone makes it a challenge to comment on blogs with long responses and I’m starting off exhausted. So, I’m posting about this early.
Family of the Tri-Rune will have an excerpt going up on That Part Where at 8 AM CST, which is a little more than an hour from now. Click on the ad below to go to the page, but it won’t be active until the given time. Final note: Keep an eye out for the last ‘Thank You’ of the Blog Tour today/tonight because part of it will mention an upcoming debut by a new fantasy author.
Earlier today I found out that an old friend of mine has lost his job.
For the past six and a half years Eddy Webb has been part of the creative team responsible for putting together the World Of Darkness video game, based on the White Wolf RPG. CCP, the company that owned the project, has canceled it, and laid off a number of employees, including my friend Eddy.
I’ve known Eddy for some years now, although he hasn’t lived in my town for a while, we keep in touch through the usual social media. To be honest, I really don’t know that much about gaming or game design, but I do know that Eddy is a meticulous researcher and a very clear and readable writer. He can produce outstanding copy to spec and on deadline.
I’m putting this out there because I know a lot of people who…
This volunteer is in the middle of her ‘April A to Z Challenge’. She’s decided to promote a book for each letter, which I think is a very kind and helpful thing to do. She is always helping authors promote their books so check out her blog for some new reads.
Bookwraiths is a blog that promotes fantasy, science-fiction, horror, and many other genres. There’s even a section for Steampunk. Check out the blog for some great reads and authors can give a look at the review policy.

I learned last night that Yesterday Road is one of the twelve finalists in the literary category of Indie Author Land’s contest: The 50 Self-Published Books Worth Reading (2013/14). Now it’s time to vote for the winner in each category.
I need lots of help here, kids. There are a couple of formidable titles on the literary list, books that received many more nominations than mine did, but I think we can make a good showing if we each get just about everyone we know to vote. See, you get five votes in each category, and, diabolical fiend that I am, I’m assuming the counter sees each computer it tags with a cookie as a different person. So vote from home. Vote from work. Vote from your phone. Vote from your mom’s computer. We want an army of voters to put Yesterday Road over the top!
Thanks to everyone for playing along with the ‘Monster Maker Fun’. This is going to be going all week, so let’s kick it off. First set of nonsense words are from Ionia Martin:
Mastaxe
This is a tiny creature found in the fallen forest of Surdu. The fur coloration helps them blend into the collapsed trees that it calls home. It’s kind of like a rabbit in that it hops around on powerful legs and directs its movements with a sail-like tail. The ears that are longer than the Mastaxe’s body twist around each other and their edged ends form a pickaxe. This is what it uses to burrow straight into the ground by leaping eight feet into the air and coming down with surprising force. In fact, a Mastaxe is capable of breaking stone if they need to.
Rhinarmor
This is what armor is called when it is made from the hide of the Rhine Bear. A deadly predator, it is covered in glittering gems that are hard as diamonds. Unfortunately, they make it impossible for the Rhine Bear to hide and it goes hungry rather often. The armor has the same issue in that it is durable, but it reflects any light that it catches and is very heavy.
Octobubble
Merfolk of the Second Sea to the Right create this faux beast to protect their eggs. It is really nothing more than enchanted water and it’s ugly pink coloration is actually the clutch. It takes the form of a giant octopus, which allows it to strangle creatures and put the corpses in the mass. The dead are processed into sustenance for the embryos as they grow. There have been instances where Octobubbles will fight each other.
Shadellum
A precious ore found off the coast of Ov’der. It’s center is a liquid, which turns warm when mixed with fresh water. The citizens gather this ore for the harsh winter, which lasts 2 months and is an endless barrage of snow. A cup of liquid Shadellum can stay warm for a week before hardening into crystal. These crystals are able to emit a beam of heat when touched by sunlight, so they are placed in the high trees. People also put them on the end of specially crafted sticks to help them through the mountain passes.
Chainwarlug
A monstrosity with the head of a one-eyed wolf and the body of an amphibious human. The skin is slimy and brown like a newt, but it is afraid to enter bodies of water. To stay moist, these creatures stay around waterfalls or chase the rainstorms that roam through the Itygog Valley. The reason the Chainwarlug hates bodies of water is because it can easily drown. Its arms and legs have holes and resembles links of a chain, so they fear getting caught on debris. These holes make it easy for predators to get a tight grip on them as well.
Lavasaur
A flying creature that feeds off remains such as carrion and dung. Originally called the Lavesaur, it has changed through a continued mispronunciation. The wings are like those of a bat, but the body is wart-covered and sticky. The mouth of this bug-eyed creature is designed to scoop food up without touching the ground. If it does land then it panics and makes such a racket that nearby predators may mistake it for injured prey. Unfortunately for the predator, the Lavesaur is highly toxic due to its diet.
Mumbleratt
Another creepy critter, the Mumbleratt looks like a large rat. In fact, it will mutter this fact to you through the walls of your house. Repeatedly. In truth, it’s a type of roach that puts its thick antennae together to form the ‘rat tail’ and has covered its body in fur taken from a real rat. The reason for this is because it has learned that humans are less likely to smash a rat than a roach. It hasn’t really figured out that whispering to people in their sleep makes for other problems. Though the Mumbleratt reproduces through spores that are released when the adult is crushed, so one has to wonder why it does this anyway.
A majestic horse that roams the prairie of Southliver. Most of them are white and brown, but there have been sightings of black, red, and purple colors. Unlike other horses, the Meagain gives off an odd glow that is stronger depending on the purity of the spirit. They are also much more intelligent. People have been able to communicate clearly with these animals even without a common language. Meagains are also good problem solvers and those in captivity have been known to pick locks with their narrow tongues. Avoid getting kicked because they have barbs on their hooves that can deliver a powerful hallucinogen.
I probably should have mentioned this in the morning post, but I forgot. No other reason beyond that.
Starting tomorrow, I’m going to be making posts that use the ‘strange’ words that people sent me last weekend. Some of the posts are long because I was given lists that ranged from 3 to 7 and I had to combine some to avoid going further than next Monday. So, enjoy the strange creatures, odd items, and bizarre events that will be mentioned in the coming days. I’ll do my best to respond to comments and keep up with posts, but I’m working with a full house and a holiday for at least 2 days. Might mean I do book promotion stuff and pass out early until things settle.
