Invasion of the Unwanted

Buzzing among the lights

Skittering in the dark

The infestation has begun

They strike without a care

Causing pain and strife

I try to stop their entry

Yet they also slip inside

Finding holes I did not see

Or waiting by the door

To scuttle in as I come and go

I hear them in my sleep

And find them when I wake

Destroying all I find

But there is always more

Project Travel- East Meadow, NY

This is for Belinda of Busy Mind Thinking.  The request is to post pictures of where we live in a travel tour type of thing.  East Meadow is rather boring and is a suburb of NYC, but I’m not much of a city rat.  I’ll do my best here to show some pictures around the area of any fun stuff:

First is Eisenhower Park, which spans a few towns.  It has a large golf course, but most of it is wide areas to play sports and relax.  Mini-golf is around there too.

We are in easy driving distance of Jones Beach too.

Sadly, that’s all I can think about for tourists.  The big thing is being able to take a train into NYC and not have to pay NYC hotel prices.  There are a vast amount of wineries, aquariums, zoos, and other things scattered about.  Again, my area is more of a hub unless you get tickets to here:

Press to Begin

All gamers know you

Button that starts and pauses

Our lives owe you much

Where Many of Us Began

Blinking lights and noise

Where tickets flow like water

We whetted our thumbs

 Tools of Our Trade

From joystick to pad

You are known by many forms

All have been thrown hard

The Toy That Stole My Heart

Running home from school

And rushing through my homework

Isolated

From Yahoo Image Search

From Yahoo Image Search

Is it natural to be alone?
Away from all
Where silence has a tone
Like an insistent phone call
Are you happy?

Do we always need someone?
A hand to hold and voice to hear
Telling us we are not done
Keeping us so near
Are you happy?

What if one deserves loneliness?
A wretch upon the planet
Pain caused by happiness
A shadow on the granite
Are you worthy?

Can one come out of sorrow?
Wiping tears away like dust
Believing there is a tomorrow
A soul regaining trust
Are you strong enough?

Cannibal Hearts

Debut of Cannibal Hearts as a Kindle eBook. Pick it up along with the first book, Catskinner’s Book.

MishaBurnett's avatarmishaburnett

Well, this is it.

It’s been over a year now, and Cannibal Hearts is now available for purchase.   I just have the Kindle version available now–I will have a print edition, but not right away.

I’m looking at this as a soft launch.  There are people who read this blog who have been waiting for it, so here it is.  I’m not going to try to do any major marketing until I’ve got Fauxpocalypse wrapped up and released.

Of course, if anyone out there wants to reblog or link to this, I would be grateful.  I do want to reach as many fans of the original book as possible–I’m just not going to put a lot of effort into catching new readers.

I’m listing it at $2.99, which I do think is fair.  It’s a good book, honestly.  I think anyone who liked the first one will like this…

A New Call for Prohibition

Warning! You must read!

coyotero2112's avatarHuman Writes

Many people are completely unaware of a dangerous substance sitting on their pantry shelves. It’s commonly known by its street name: “bread.”

Facts About Bread
  • More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread eaters.
  • Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming households score below average on standardized tests.
  • Newborn babies can choke on bread.
  • Bread is baked at temperatures as high as 400 degrees Fahrenheit! That kind of heat can kill an adult in less than one minute.
  • In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years; infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died in childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever and influenza ravaged whole nations.
  • More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread.
  • Bread is made from a substance called “dough.” It…

Women of Windemere Week!

By Kayla Matt

By Kayla Matt

Kayla Matt is the young woman who drew my characters for the book trailer idea.  That didn’t pan out yet because the person who knew how to put it together has been rather busy with life.  So, I was surprised when Kayla asked me for descriptions of the following characters:

Nyx
Trinity
Selenia Hamilton
Kira Grasdon
Kellia

They are amazing as you can see from the crop of Nyx’s face.  Having 5 characters to work with, I decided to do a ‘Women of Windemere’ week.  Every day will have one set of the drawings go up.  Here’s where I stumble because I don’t know what else to do.  The character interviews have fallen flat recently and only Kira and Kellia haven’t had a turn.  I am considering putting a music video that describes each character.  Yet my music knowledge isn’t too great.  I have a few ideas though.  Location poems were mentioned too, which can work because each character has a place that is connected to them in some way.  I might have to stretch some things for Kellia though.

So, anybody have any suggestions for what other kinds of posts can be done?

Update on Progress

OH GOD NO! NOT THIS AGAIN!

OH GOD NO! NOT THIS AGAIN!

I don’t think I’ve done this all week and Ionia lampooning me doesn’t count.  It counts for comedy and amusement, but not for an update.  I’ll make this quick:

  1. Broke 1,500 with Prodigy of Rainbow Tower and Beginning of a Hero.
  2. Still no word from Amazon on the Sword & Sorcery list.  For those unaware, I was on this Bestselling list until last Sunday when I was cut without warning.  It seems indie authors aren’t supposed to be there or something.  I sent an email to Amazon explaining how indie authors use their lists to sell books and how I want to build a career with them.  So, they’re looking into it, but it could be BS.
  3. I’m still on the lists and both books are doing fine.
  4. I sent another e-mail to ereadernewstoday to see if Beginning of a Hero can be listed.
  5. Put a plan into action to get some money for more advertising since the new laptop hit my funds pretty badly.
  6. No word on cover art for Allure of the Gypsies.  Halloween debut might not happen.

I definitely recommend posting your Amazon site and a sales blurb on the Facebook sites that I listed on my Advertising Links page.  That has helped, but you have to give a flashy blurb.  One in the morning and one at night.

That’s progress and I’m going to set up another post about a special theme for next week that I need some ideas for.
