CatalystsBig thank you to Ionia for letting me post about my debut Horror novella.  I promise to clean up after myself and lock the door when I’m done.

Synopsis–

When trapped in an elevator together, Jeffrey and Darla learn that misery doesn’t always love company. With the screams of death and chaos echoing from outside, they find themselves slowly slipping into a world of fear and darkness they may never recover from. All the while, something is terrorizing the convention outside and turning the guests and celebrities into psychotic monsters.

The inspiration for Catalysts is that I wanted to try another genre.  I’ve spent most of my life playing in the fantasy genre, so I set out to prove to myself and one annoying friend that I could step out of that comfort zone.  Supernatural horror came to mind because…

Mwahaha! Who Likes a Mad Scientist?

Yahoo Image Search

Yahoo Image Search

Around this time of year, you get all the ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and zombies coming out to play.  I’ve noticed that one archetype of horror gets very little attention beyond a few sexy or goofy outfits among adults.  So, let’s talk about why we love the Mad Scientist!

I think these characters are great because they’re human and insane.  Many have this mentality that they are either helping humanity or they simply don’t care about the consequences of what they’re doing.  So, morally they aren’t so much repugnant, but they’re out there.  It’s strange because they can’t use the excuse of being a monster like other classic horror characters.  Yet, they do monstrous things and truly love doing it.  Even stranger is that their enemies never have this urge to slay them like other monsters,  it’s typically stopping them or imprisoning them.  Have to give them credit on always keeping their lab coats clean too.

I think them being human sets them apart and makes them interesting because you expect or hope they change their ways.  A vampire doesn’t get that level of redemption and is expected to be slain by the end of the movie.  The Mad Scientist is seen as a mortal man and deranged, but there’s a sense that they aren’t entirely evil.  They create monsters, but are not monsters themselves in the eyes of audiences.  Unfortunately, they tend to be forgotten or only remembered their insane laugh.  Though, I will admit it is a great laugh that they get.

So, what do you think of Mad Scientists and their lack of spotlight?  Also a classic to help you think:

Halloween Goal Post!

Capybara

Capybara

So a lot has changed with Allure of the Gypsies going out on December 1st and Catalysts going out either tonight or tomorrow.  Depends on if I can finish the final edits today and how long Amazon review takes.  I’m realizing that editing over the weekend is about as easy as keeping a happy toddler quiet and still for an hour.

I’m going to try to post about the blog tour for Allure of the Gypsies later today.  Probably make the post tonight and try to explain it to the best of my abilities.  Anyway, I have to eat and bike and start laundry, so here are the goals.

  1. Finishing editing and then publish Catalysts.
  2. Set up Catalysts on Goodreads and do some minor promotion.
  3. Continue editing Beginning of a Hero, Family of the Tri-Rune, and Allure of the Gypsies.
  4. Take son trick or treating on Halloween.
  5. Possibly work a bit more on The Slumber War if time permits.
  6. Eat, sleep, and shower.
  7. Get back into the biking schedule.
  8. Continue plotting ‘his’ demise.

Now a question for people and also to see if people read this far:

Would it be worthwhile to bring back the character interviews that I used to do on Tuesday?  These are the ones where bloggers can ask the characters questions and get into a conversation.  I stopped when I got a bunch of likes and few comments, which felt like it was a pointless post.  Yet, I do want to include interviews in the Allure of the Gypsies hype week and there are a few minor characters who can get introduced.  Maybe even characters from other series.

Small Note on Catalysts

I’m doing a final edit on Catalysts, so it might not be ready until tomorrow night or Monday morning.  So, it might be a goal post before the debut post.  I hope people are willing to reblog and spread the word on the horror fun.

As an apology, here’s a poem:

Best laid plans of mice
Ruined by a cat or trap
Prefer to be man?
