Day 2 of the big free eBook weekend!

JS Riddle's avatarJ.S. Riddle

Day one has been a great eye opener and a wonderful social mixer if I may add.  I’m still new at this media thing, but those who have watched me take those first baby steps into the scary world of social media, especially blogging, will tell you that I have come a long way and still have a lot to learn.

And with that, I’m giving the last day of my promotion my gift of word.  Rise of a Queen is still up on Amazon for anybody to download for free, my treat.  Just read, share with friends, please write any kind of review you want (I am not fluent in Klingon so I don’t think that would help anybody that much) whether good or bad; I got big girl britches on so I’m ready for the punches.  In a perfect world I’d live with 5 star reviews, millions of…

Excerpts from Legends of Windemere: Beginning of a Hero reviews:

“This was a good book. No, it was a great book. There was adventure, a teensy bit of romance, great characters who were described in wonderful detail, and a story that kept you wanting to read more.” -Pamela Beckford

“I have always loved fantasy. I think the very first series I ever read was the Belgariad by David Eddings. Although it has it’s differences I couldn’t help but be reminded of the Belgariad while reading Legends of Windemere. The main characters are alike. They are both young and full of themselves. I can only imagine how much Luke Callindor will grow though the series.” -Annie2186

“I enjoyed the book. I wasn’t sure about the present tense, but I thought it all held together well, and I loved the humour. You don’t notice it at first, then it comes back and bites you on the arse.” -Rose

Excerpts from Legends of Windemere: Prodigy of Rainbow Tower reviews:

“Something I find unique about this fantasy novel that I don’t often find in others, is that the hero, Luke Callindor is rather of the unlucky variety. He does not get everything he asks for, he stumbles, falls, gets knocked down (literally)and taught lessons as he goes. This is helping him to grow into the hero that was promised in the first book. He is learning new things with every adventure and his flaws are they type that all good main characters should have. He has already changed a lot from when we met him in Beginning of a Hero, where I rather thought of him as a spoiled prat for the first half of the story. It is nice to see an author take growth of his characters seriously.” -Ionia Martin

“I found l was pulled into the story and be came one with the story. Can’t wait to read Allure of the Gypsies!! Thank you Charles E Yallowitz. Please keep going your stories are awesome.” -Debra Perkins

“I really liked how I could hear the author’s voice through the main character, hero Luke Callindor. And I can’t help but admire how well written and thorough each character is, from the treacherous Lich and the latest villains to Luke’s newfound friends and old companions.” -Briana Vedsted

Legends of Windemere: Allure of the Gypsies is set to debut on Halloween 2013!

“A heartwarming story of a young woman trying to survive in the west of the late 1800’s. Briana Vested does a wonderful job of telling this dusty tale filled with action, drama, and romance, not necessarily in that order. This doesn’t happen often to me, but once I got to know Cord and the rest of her great cast of characters, I had a hard time putting this book down.”

Excerpt: Childhood Friends (Unedited from Family of the Tri-Rune)

Sari’s emerald eyes flutter open as pinpricks of sunlight appear on her face. She pushes a few locks of her dark blue hair out of her mouth while snuggling closer to the warm, slender body next to her. Her smooth legs entwine with the bare legs that feel like they are giving off waves of heat under the blanket. The gypsy drapes her arm over the other sleeping form, interlocking her fingers with the callused digits of her partner. A sigh of contentment rises from her lips as she nuzzles into the sweet-smelling hair on her pillow. Sari is beginning to fall asleep again when she feels a sudden pain in her fingers. A low growl rolls from her sleeping partner, who is slowly crushing the gypsy’s hand.

“Why are you in my bed again?” Nyx asks before letting go of Sari’s hand.

“I was lonely and we used to share beds when we were kids,” Sari mutters in the voice of a scolded child.

“We aren’t kids any more and you have a new playmate.  Where is Luke anyway?” Nyx asks, her violet eyes becoming narrow, drowsy slits. Her eyes grow wide when Sari pushes against her back. “More importantly, where are your clothes?”

“You’re naked too,” Sari points out with a little whimper. “At least I’m wearing undershorts, Nyxie. They might be Luke’s, but I’m wearing them.”

“This is my room,” Nyx growls, inching away from Sari. “I run very hot, so I sleep naked for comfort when I have the luxury. By luxury, I mean when I have a private room and the door is locked from the inside. You might want to explain that little mystery while I’m still deciding on if I should or shouldn’t launch your semi-clothed butt out the window.”

“Do you really think a simple door lock can stop me?” Sari playfully asks. She hooks a leg around Nyx’s waist when the half-elf starts to struggle. “You even think of launching me out the window then you’re coming with me.”

Nyx can feel the pressure from Sari’s immovable body and goes limp as a silent act of defeat. “You win, Sari. I promise not to embarrass you as long as you explain to me where Luke is and why you’re in here wearing his underwear.”

“Luke went out for a morning run,” Sari explains, refusing to pull away from Nyx, who is incredibly warm to the touch. “As for my clothes, they’re on the chair by the door. You’re so warm that wearing all of my sleeping clothes makes me wake up in a pool of sweat. Is it really so bad to wake up like this? It isn’t like I have parts that you haven’t seen before.”

“That isn’t the point!” Nyx exclaims, a magical wind whipping her black hair over Sari’s face. “My spine hurts from you hugging me so hard and having those . . . boulders crushed against my back. I thought those things were only supposed to cause back pain to the girl who has them.”

“My partner always told me that they were like pillows,” Sari interjects. She yelps when Nyx flips around, tiny flames rippling around the half-elf’s lips. “No need to use magic, Nyxie. I swear on Cessia’s coins that next time I will wake you up and switch positions. I’m built more like a spoonee than a spooner and you’re definitely built look a spooner.”

“There won’t be a next time, Sari. After today, you sleep with Luke or you sleep by yourself,” Nyx says with a hurt expression on her face. She nervously shifts under the covers and pulls the sheet up to her chin, fighting the urge to compare her body with Sari’s.

Sari pouts and inches closer to the mellowing half-elf. “Don’t be like that, Nyxie. A big bed like this is lonely, so I feel that I’m welcome in your bed until you have a man to share it with.”

“Then, we’ll be sharing a bed until we’re old maids,” Nyx laughs, immediately regretting the comment.

“How many times are we going to have this conversation?” Sari asks with a mischievous smirk. She slinks her hand toward Nyx, but the blanket magically pins her arm down. “You’re a woman who is beautiful, powerful, intelligent, and so many other positive attributes. The only reason you don’t have a man is because you never put time and effort into the game of love. It has nothing to do with your temper, your rough hands, your small breasts, or whatever else you might consider a negative.”

“My hands are rough because I’ve spent the last three days making you a magical dress,” Nyx argues. She adopts an expression of mock fury, which quickly melts away as she stares into Sari’s eyes. “Listen, Sari, I know I could get a guy if I put my mind to it, but I’ve yet to find one worth pursuing. I’m not lonely or depressed like you think I am. I might not be happy and . . . intimate like you and Luke, but I’m content with my life.”

“Don’t get me started on Luke and intimacy,” Sari suddenly declares, rolling onto her back and pulling the blankets over her. “We haven’t even kissed since the first day of the celebration and sleeping in bed with him is so uneventful. I have no idea what’s going through his head or why he’s pulling away from me. It’s so damn frustrating!”

(Each character has been given a video game song too.  Why?  Because I listened to a video game music while writing the poems and many of the songs stuck.)

Two New Social Media Promo Sites

This is going to be quick.  Two sites have been suggested to me for some simple promotions.  I’m testing both out to see how it goes.

The first is Reddit, which allows you to post a link to the site.  Being new, I’ve had to wait for about 10-15 minutes between posts.  That’s a downside, but it’s supposed to get easier the more attention I get.  At least that’s what the message says.  You may notice that there is a Reddit button at the bottom of some posts.  You can click on this and send the post to your Reddit account.  I need to remember to do this.  So far, I’ve posted some book review links to this site and we’ll see what happens.  Might take a while to get more on there and it could very well go the way of Pinterest where I barely pay attention to it after setting myself up.

The second is Stumbleupon, which has a button too.  This is a lot easier to set up and moves a lot quicker with getting stuff on there.  I’ve already posted 2 book reviews and a few of my poem posts on there.  No delay and you can dive right in.  It’s another site that you can set up and work from other sites without a problem.  It’s very picture oriented from what I can see.

At this time, I’m still waiting for Reddit to let me post again, so I’ll go back to it in an hour.  I guess you can use this one when you have time and patience.  Simple set up, but long waiting time.  Be nice if you could connect either of these to your blog for automatic posting like Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and LinkedIn.  I can see Stumbleupon being great for this, but they run a NSFW rating system.  I guess that explains only have a button.

Add-on:  I’m going wild putting stuff on Stumbleupon.  It’s really quick to get set up and running.  Highly recommended even if it doesn’t bring in a ton of sales.  At least it’s exposure on another medium.

2nd Add-on:  There is a limit on Stumbleupon.  14 posts a day apparently.  Oops.

Woman of Windemere: Nyx Poems

I Am Nyx

I am magic
Born to cast and fight
It is my destiny
To face the darkness
A warrior of the gods
Should I know anything else?

Fire in my hands
Before I could take step
Taking to spells
Like they were made for me
Reveling in duels
Am I only a weapon?

Raised to be a lady
A role that did not take
Bar brawls at night
An adopted rebel
With terrifying power
Am I even a woman?

Nightmare of Her Youth

Her earliest memory
Is of a mother’s warmth
Fringed by flame
That consumes the town
Licking at their feet
While demons hunt about
Devouring her people

Thrown into the hands
Of a man in red
His glowing staff aloft
She remembers
A mother’s sacrifice
Consumed by fire
To tear demons asunder
