Check out the cover for Pamela Beckford’s upcoming poetry collection, ‘Love: Lost & Found’.

I’m so excited about the cover for my new book. I know I’ve been talking about this for quite a while now, but it is all coming together very quickly now.

I had a friend help me by photoshopping some images together to create the picture. He was great at coming up with exactly what I could see in my head (and trust me, that is no easy thing to do). And then I have another friend (she is actually someone who does most of the graphic design work for me at work) who created the final cover. I think they did a great job.

I am hoping to have this ready to publish on Kindle this week and then available in paperback within a couple of weeks.

Please share this cover and help me promote my latest poetry collection.

Dreams of Love by Pamela

Prepare for Pamela’s next collection of love poems by diving into the first for 99 cents!

Pamela Beckford's avatarPoetry by Pamela

My next collection of love poems will be ready soon…I promise. I’m waiting on the final cover art. I’m really excited about this collection and the cover should be amazing. The title will be Love: Lost and Found. You can be sure I will be making an announcement as soon as I can get a proof copy (although I may go ahead and publish the Kindle version sooner).

Anyway, if you haven’t already purchased Dreams of Love, now would be a great time to do so. It is back in the top 100 of Love Poems on Kindle, but sales will help keep it there. I don’t think you will be disappointed by what you read. There are several five star reviews (you really should go read all the wonderful things people have said about Dreams of Love).

*Insert World Cup Goal Reference*

The toddler is home Monday and Friday, so I don’t plan on leaping into any big projects or adventures.  As it stands, I probably won’t be starting that big editing run until August when Book 5 is out.  That is going to be a hellish month because the toddler is off for 3-4 weeks and I’ll be having to juggle ‘Debut Month’ duties.  One of the big reasons I think I’ll forgo a blog tour.  I simply won’t have the time to keep up with thank you posts and WordPress in general.  I’ll be depending a lot on Hootsuite, late nights, and struggling to maintain my own blog.  At least most of the time.  I’m hoping to get a few days of computer time then.

I got all the characters and places set up for the Elysium Saga, which means I can finish the plot write ups this week.  I had a breakdown about a character involved there, but was finally talked down from that by a friend who is smarter than I (name starts with that too.  :D).  Good chance that I’ll get to do a little work on the add-on stories for ‘Realm of the Night’ and ‘Tales of the Slumberlord’.  Small issue with that first one is that I don’t know if I can call a series ‘Realm of the Night’ if it involves the rise of day-walking vampires and the civil war between them and the nocturnal versions.  Not that the old world vamps are hurt by sunlight, but they lose their strength unless they wear special cloaks that cover their entire bodies.  It’s complicated and I’ve had that title for decades.  Just something that people might nitpick me on.

A bittersweet success is that I finished watching ‘Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood’ . . . I’m going through withdrawal as you can see from the attached videos.  I also ordered the 8 volumes that I’m missing from the manga and have told the wife that we’re watching the series together.  I’m having a lot of trouble letting go here.  *tasers whoever starts singing that ‘Frozen’ song*  Seriously, it’s an amazing series in both manga and anime form.  I dream of designing a world that is so rich with mythology and deep characters where each one has a fan base.

I’m already jotting down blog post themes for August.  This has led me to want to do another ‘Ask a Character’ week, which tends to be as successful as cannibalism on a first date.  Still, this gives people a chance to interact with my characters and grants me a relatively easy week of posts.  This would be the first week when I’m focused a lot on the book debut, but I would like it to be successful.  So I picked the following characters to use for this, but would love some opinions:

  • Delvin Cunningham
  • Baron Arthuru Kernaghan
  • ‘Bob’ (real name will be public by then)
  • General Vile
  • Kira Grasdon (she returns in Book 5)
  • Nyder Fortune & Yola Biggs (Joint interview)

Anyway, I might continue my rarity for another week or two due to events.  I try my best through my phone, but that autocorrect and limited data plan throws me off.  Well, that and if I’m not on the computer it means I’m escorting little Mr. Elsa around town.  Kid doesn’t understand the concept of staying out of the sun.  Here are the goals!

  1. Read ‘Toriko’ until ‘Fullmetal Alchemist 20-27’ arrives from Amazon.  In a manga mood.
  2. Finish the plot outlines for ‘Elysium Saga’.
  3. Get the veggie platter and fruit salad for July 4th gathering.
  4. Do not eat favorite parts of veggie platter and fruit salad before July 4th gathering.
  5. Start planning toddler’s birthday celebration.  Battle of the guest list begins!
  6. Figure out how to entertain toddler on Monday when I know I’ll be exhausted from the weekend.  He wants to go to the mall for some reason.
  7. Start set up for add on books to other series.
  8. Continue marketing and hope July is better than June.
  9. See if I can remember the new book title for the Legends of Windemere finale.  ‘Age of Heroes’ didn’t fly too well.  Book 11 had a little issue too with ‘Heart of Fire, Heart of Steel’.  Hard to get opinions there without spoiling the story.
  10. Keep watching World Cup.

I’ll be gone for most of the day.  By now, I’ve already been at the petting zoo with the toddler for 30-40 minutes.  Hope everyone has a fun day.

Villain Teaser Excerpt: Krypters, Ravenous ‘Children’ of Nyx

Nyx spent a few books being pushed to her limits, but these creatures are the first time her magic was ever truly negated.  They’re hungry to devour her aura and flesh, but nobody really knows why.  Check out their debut in FAMILY OF THE TRI-RUNE, which is available for $2.99.

REMINDER: Tomorrow will have the teaser debut (out of Family of the Tri-Rune) for the BIG BADDIE of the Legends of Windemere series.

Alucard from Hellsing (Best I could find)

Alucard from Hellsing (Best I could find)

Tzefira leads the three adventurers away from the group, looking back to see Conrad climbing into a tree with a black longbow strapped to his back. In tense silence, they carefully weave their way through the thick forest until they reach a dark river. The mighty trees of the forest have stopped, giving way to the watery earth of a swamp. Luke is instantly reminded of where the Caster Swamp and Visindor Forest meet, but the air smells more like that of a flooded cemetery than a natural swamp. He looks at Nyx, touching his nose with the tip of his saber, and she nods her head in agreement.

“You smell rotten flesh too?” Sari asks, gently placing her lips against Luke’s ear.

All he can manage is an awkward nod and a comforting pat on the gypsy’s arm with his saber. His eyes fall to the stiletto clutched in her left hand, which bears a striking resemblance to the one he had lost in his first encounter with Kalam. Sari notices him staring at the weapon and experimentally waves it in front of his face. He shows her his sabers, but she only shrugs and gives him a playful smirk. Luke is about to talk when Tzefira startles him with a flick on the ear and points ahead.

Looking across the river, the young adventurers see the remains of a herd of elk that have been brutally torn apart. Even from far away, they can hear bones crunching and flesh tearing before they pinpoint the source of the noise. Nine muscular creatures are moving among the slaughtered elk, their faces pressed to the blood-soaked ground. Their glossy skin is a swirling mixture of deep black and bloody red. One of the creature rises from its hunched position to stand at its full eight-foot height. It angrily hisses at the sky and shows off several rows of sharp teeth. The standing krypter scratches at its side with long claws, sending scraps of twitching skin to the ground. The adventurers hold their breath and freeze when its head turns toward them, staring in their direction with an eyeless face. It sniffs at the stale air before hunkering down for another mouthful of elk.

Tzefira pulls Nyx close, so she can whisper, “Hit them hard and fast. We need a first strike.”

Nyx swallows the lump in her throat and focuses on the ravenous creatures across the wide river. The longer she stares at them, the more nauseated she feels. It is as if the very sight of them is a testament to her violated aura. She waves for her allies to take a few steps away before her hands burst with hot water behind her back. Nyx patiently waits for several minutes until four of the krypters gather close to each other, making them a perfect target for her boiling water spell. Her hands rise above her head before the krypters take notice and threateningly roar in surprise. With a high-pitched scream, Nyx launches a large wave of steaming water over the river.

All of the krypters bravely gather in front of the incoming spell and rise to their full height as if to jump. Instead, they hold out their hands and let the magical attack wash over them. Instead of tearing them apart, the water becomes a whirling pillar that shreds the surrounding tree branches as it rises to the clouds. With a horrifying screech, the krypters open their mouths and inhale Nyx’s spell until their bellies bloat and throb. A coating of blue fire covers their sharp claws and icy horns sprout from their heads as they sway on their feet in ecstasy.

“Run!” Tzefira shouts. She grabs Nyx by the arm and drags the stunned half-elf into the woods. She hears Luke and Sari running behind them as the krypters shatter the silence with trilling screams. Risking a quick glance, Tzefira sees the krypters leap over the river and move faster than she has ever seen them move before.

Keep your arctic chill
Where your breath hangs in the air
And snow slips within your boots
Teeth chattering
Was never my cup of tea

Keep your melting heat
Where sweat drips from every pore
And the sun bakes the world
In a hazy landscape
I prefer to hide inside

Give me pleasant weather
Even with a gentle rain
No pit stains or red noses
Just soothing climate
That holds no promise of misery

Now to be cast into the summer heat for the next 4 days.  So if you get a barely coherent comment from me it means one of four things:

  1. Dehydration
  2. Exhaustion
  3. Sunstroke
  4. Tried to comment by iPhone while blinded by sweat

Book Review Challenge Series – A Woman’s Wisdom

The Crying Scene and The Beloved Villain

I just finished watching an anime I’ve been meaning to get to for a long time.  I saw the first version of it and read a lot of the manga, but this was the new version that I finally got my hands on.  Refused to watch it unless I know I had every episode.  Anyway, this anime brought up two questions.  One needs very little explanation and one might need a bit due to past discussions.

  1. Is there a scene in a book, movie, video game, or TV show that will make you tear up or feel a pain in the heart every time you watch it?
  2. How do you feel about villain deaths being kind of sad and dramatic?

That second question is what needs the explanation because I hear ‘I want my villains evil and irredeemable’ all the time.  We seem to fear having a touch of humanity in the bad guys even though these are the characters we remember.  Somebody about a villain doing horrible things and then dying in a way that makes you feel a little sorry for them is rather interesting.  In the anime I just finished, the main bad guy’s ending was well-deserved, but I couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for him.  This stems from the dialogue and the final scene.  I guess you could say that the way it came off, I couldn’t really cheer because it was rather sad.  It really makes me hope to create a villain one day who is both hated and loved.

Due to spoilers, I’m only going to answer that first question with the name of the series.  Anyone who watched this will know the death/funeral scene that I’m talking about:

Fullmetal Alchemist
