Nicholas C. Rossis's avatarNicholas C. Rossis

The Power of Six, short science fiction stories, on July 4th saleJust in case someone was wondering what the big banner at the top is all about, I wanted to say that The Power of Six, my collection of six short science fiction stories by me and one by my long-lost-twin-brother-by-other-parents, Amos M. Carpenter, will be on sale on Amazon, until Monday 7/7/14, when the price goes back to $2.99.

If you wished to read it but have not bought it yet, this is a great opportunity to download it for pennies! Just head off to Amazon, knock on the door three times, wait, knock another three and tell them that Nick sent you. Wink, pay a buck, throw the cent into the fountain behind you, make a wish, take a sharp left and head off to the beach to enjoy your new book.

As always, if you do enjoy it, let your friends know (and write a glowing review)…

Nostalgia Songs

The touch of a wordless tune
Bringing me back to the games
That I played from years ago
Joyous memories of fun

Rygar and Blaster Master
Amazing at the time
Making me feel old
When I stumble upon them now

The list can go on for days
Creepiness of Metroid
Exhilaration of Castlevania
While Samus and Simon fight to victory

The melody of Kid Icarus
Alongside the tension of Contra
Both overshadowed
By the themes of Link and Mario

Mirror Interview # 2 Elizabeth Tyree

Mirror Interview from Readfulthings. Meet Elizabeth Tyree!

Ionia Froment's avatarreadful things blog

Why don’t we start with who you are? Is this a pen name?

My name is Elizabeth S. Tyree and I write for the YA and Children’s age groups. I suppose technically they call what I do ‘Fantasy’ but I try to make sure that it is written like mid-20th century works would have been…no sex, no graphic language, and if there’s a fight scene or nastiness we move through it quickly. I don’t use a pen name because I am also a teacher and the daughter of a preacher so I work with people of all age groupings. It would be confusing for many of them to try to find my work if I used a pseudonym!

You can click any of these links and find me online (the last being my amazon.com page):

Volunteers Needed: July 30th Cover Reveal for ‘The Compass Key’ (STICKY POST! NEW STUFF BELOW!)

So easy you can do it from a tree!

So easy you can do it from a tree!

This post is going to sit here for most of July and the title will tell you why.  I’m still aiming for an August 1st debut of Legends of Windemere: The Compass Key, so it’s not too early to get people to help spread the news.  Keep in mind that this is a Cover Reveal and not a Blog Tour, so it’s a one day event.  I will be sending the volunteers an HTML document to be put into their blog for the event.

Besides this, we’re considering doing 1 or 2 TWUBS chats during that week.  This is where you can ask me questions in a special twitter chat room.  I’ll post more on that when I’ve figured out various times and dates.  Feel free to offer time and day of the week suggestions.  Also if you want to see a specific post topic during the week that connects to debuting my next book.

Now here is a link to the Google Doc for volunteers.  Thank you in advance.

Heart Storm

Stabs in the chest
Like something seeks release
A beast of wind
That tears and rages at your seams
Fed by pain
Inescapable by those who live
Creature wants to rule
Conquering the tattered husk of you
Not caring about loss
As long as it makes you scream

Many will fall
Some enjoying pain and suffering
Adoring the beast
As if it is how the world should be
Others hide
Cowering in their shadowy home
More will fight
Claiming victory over their beast
Gloating and crowing
Over those still trapped within the fray

The beast is eternal
To live is to give it food and love
Pain will always be
So one wonders why they try to fight
Or if there is one way
Truth is that one does what one does
Every monster is unique
Crafted from our thoughts and fears
Our heart’s curse
That we can never truly shed

In The Land of Kalavahm

Stepping off the amber path
That led me through the darkest souls
I have come to where it rests
The land of Kalavahm
Country bathed in emerald clouds
Where all lost pieces land

Setting off on a well worn path
Traveling the mountain high
Cliffs cloaked in flowers
Of purest bubbles and lace
I crest this place of solitude
While feeling eyes upon my form

Passing temples of mottled stone
That run along the valley
Ghostly forms dance within their halls
More pieces lost by others
Having drifted off to Kalavahm
Not knowing they are missed

I reach the sunlight forest
Where trees are beams of bright
Beautiful and soft
Enveloping the path I walk
Yet I still know the way
Sensing my journey is near its end

At the edge of Kalavahm
I find the other piece I lost
Unaware it has been found
Not remembering it was gone
All we know is we are one again
Until Kalavahm is no more

Mad Ones Here!

The joyous sounds of laughter
Echoing among the warping halls
Twisted by tears
That rise up to the rafters
And you expect to win with sense?

Birds fly through the seas
While fish drown in arid skies
As the mad ones hum
To the song of a long dead bee
And you expect to clear our heads?

All eyes stare into the void
Even when they focus on the now
Worlds drifting to the mind
That none may ever understand
And you expect to be the one who’s true?

We hear you yell for sanity
That it is what all must seek
You know what is right and real
While the rest of us are fools
And you expect us to listen and agree?
.
.
.
And they call us mad
