For those that weren’t around last year or want to kick a man while he’s down, today is Yom Kippur. The gist of this is that it is one of the Jewish High Holy Days. It’s our day of atonement, which means we fast from sundown to sundown. So I haven’t eaten since dinner last night and I won’t eat again until the sun goes to sleep tonight or I pull the ‘dark enough’ line. It’s really tough around here for several reasons:
- My wife isn’t Jewish, so she doesn’t fast.
- My parents don’t fast because of medications.
- My son is too young to fast.
- I’m the only one in the house who fasts.
This means I lock myself in the room as soon as I can and play video games until the sun goes down. Now that I found my copy of ‘Castlevania: Symphony of the Night’, I have my favorite distraction. Unless it doesn’t work on the HDTV, which happened last year with the original Legend of Zelda and forced me to use Lego: Batman. The repetitiveness was not a good distraction. Yes, I know SOTN has food as healing items, but that never really bothered me.
So I won’t be as quick to comment here and I might be silent on commenting on other blogs. The breaking of the fast tends to include overdoing it, regret, groaning, and an attempt to sneak a beer when nobody is looking. By the way, never break a fast with a carbonated beverage. I did that in college and my roommate thought he’d have to bring me to the hospital. I mean, I was floored and feebly reaching for the meatball sub that I thought would heal me . . . I do weird things after playing ‘Symphony of the Night’ for a full day.
Anyway, that’s the day here. All marketing stuff has been done in advance because trying to do it while starving and a little delirious doesn’t work well. Though you might see a few tweets pop up about this if I decide to go near the computer. Beyond that I’ll be more on the phone until night.
