Nameless Finale and A Fresh Book

Hulk vs Superman

Hulk vs Superman

So I’m staring at these empty pages in the first notebook.  Though I guess you can’t call it first since I have at least 10 others that range from 2 years old to high school days.  This is the first of the updated, everything in Windemere notebooks.  Of course this means I need to get another one for the next grouping of stories.  All of this creates questions:

Do I work on the Grand Finale?

No idea if I ever brought this up in detail, but I’ve mentioned that the last book I ever write will be the Grand Finale of Windemere.  This tends to get people thinking I’m going to disappear in a year or two.  Keep in mind that I need to finish the other THIRTY SERIES/ONE-SHOTS first.  Yet, I do need to keep track of certain things to have this war between the remaining heroes and villains.  Structure is a question as well as who I take to the end.  How do I even organize such a thing?  It’s going to be put into the back of this notebook, so I’m thinking adding characters to the list as I bring other series to an end.  I only have a faint idea of how to do this.  Each chapter revolves around a hero or villain, which helps focus the story.

Which grouping do I tackle next?

There are 2 big series and groupings that I can think of taking on.  One is the ‘Project Phoenix’ stuff, which has a few issues.  It’s a lengthy series where nearly every book focuses on a new hero that has been awakened.  Only the first and final 2 books will be all hands on deck.  The big issue is that I keep finding other stories on my list that can fall under this umbrella.  Leaves me wondering if clearing more off the list would be smarter and that makes it easier to decide on what goes here.

The other series is 9 books that follow a young thief who always finds himself in these epic adventures.  Each one will be 4 acts with new and old heroes, multiple villains, and a lot of globe spanning.  I haven’t touched this series in a long time.  Oddly enough, the outline I made for the first book in college still holds up enough that I need only do a few tweaks.  The other 8 will be a challenge since I have various versions of some and absolutely nothing about the others.  Another headache with this series will be that I’d have to stop at certain points to work on another.  This is to avoid spoilers since the main character travels to areas that are awakened or founded in other stories.  Not to mention interacting with other heroes.  Right now I’m leaning toward this one, but I’m finding my mind keeps wandering.

Third Question

I had something, but I don’t remember.  All I know is that I’m gearing up for tackling the next book in Legends of Windemere.  I might start it on Monday, but I really just want to get it done by the end of March or early April.  If I can get 2 books written before summer break then I’m golden.

Love Aflame Blog Tour

Pamela Beckford publishes her 3rd solo poetry collection. Using various poetic forms she illustrates how love can set the heart on fire but also shows how that same love can turn to ashes. Poetry is an expression from deep within the soul. It can be therapeutic and healing. It can bring out all the best or the worst in life. Her poetry comes from the heart, not the head. It is an outpouring of emotion and she exposes it to the reader in the pages. She leaves a piece of her soul in every poem

Reviewers have said things like:

“Pamela’s poems are refreshing since they are truly written from the heart. She has a gift of writing a poem that speaks to each person’s heart and emotions.”

“Breathtaking. That singular word – breathtaking – is the best one-word description of “Dreams of Love” by Pamela Beckford that kept coming to mind as I lingered within the pages.”

“These are not just words strung together in forms. Somehow she manages to share huge and deep emotions with two words – or one. ”

“Pamela’s poetry is diverse and creative. Lyrical without self-conscious fluff. Quiet confidence in her abilities with the various forms.”

Pamela Beckford has been writing poetry for about two years. She began writing with the encouragement of a couple of friends and has found that it has taken over her mind. She is a nonprofit CEO and enjoys reading with children on a regular basis, as well as her own reading. She lives in northern Indiana where she devotes her life to others through her job and her family.

Advertise Your Book on Amazon—New Opportunity

This is very interesting.

ADVERTISE ON AMAZON

There is a new opportunity available to advertise your book on Amazon.

https://kdp.amazon.com/help?topicId=A2DJUTY13KIH2C

How would you like to advertise your book directly on Amazon.com?

That would be cool, huh?

What if you could do this on a modest budget?

Even better!

Well, now you can:

  • minimum campaign budget is $100
  • minimum bid is 2 cents
  • pay per click

But there’s a catch:

It’s only open to KDP Select authors.

I think it’s a nice benefit for enrolling in KDP Select, on top of current benefits like Kindle Unlimited.

So if you bid 2 cents, a campaign budget of $100 can net you 5000 clicks.

Higher bids are more likely to result in advertisements being shown and result in clicks. But then you get fewer clicks for your money, also.

I like that the charge is per click. You’re not charged when people see…

Putting People in Your Books

Yahoo Image Search

Yahoo Image Search

This is a popular quote among authors and there seems to be a grand tradition of putting people in a book as ‘revenge’.  Yet there are times where someone is put into a book as an honor.  I tend to lean toward the latter because something about immortalizing someone I don’t like rubs me the wrong way.  Being put into Windemere is special as far as I’m concerned because it’s allowing someone into my world.  This doesn’t happen often, but I have some instances:

  1. The Champions and some allies–  Given that several heroes are from the other players in the game, they are in there.  This includes Nimby, Fritz, Aedyn, Fizzle, Nyx, Sari, Delvin, Timoran, and anyone played by the DM.  Rather explanatory.
  2. Queen Ionia–  This character was originally Queen Tempest, but I had too many ‘T’ characters.  I needed a new name and went with one of my closet friends.  It was actually a coincidence that both had something to do with squirrels.
  3. Mayor Pam Learim & John Aneveom– These two minor characters appear in Curse of the Dark Wind and are named after two fellow bloggers:  Pamela Beckford and John W. Howell.  This was done after my first Twubs chat in 2013 and they were the only two who showed up for it.  I was writing the book at the time and figured it would be a good thank you.  I did run it by them, but I’m not sure they remember.
  4. Future–  Just to avoid spoilers, I do have at least two more that are coming.  One is a thank you for helping with ideas for Nevra Coil in Book 8.  Another is a minor character in Book 9, which will show what happens if you bug me for too long about getting a character named after you.

I will admit that there are others I want to name characters after, but I haven’t find the right part for them.  It’s a delicate area for me because I don’t know how some people will take to certain characters.  Not every role is flattering and I have a habit of putting even minor ones through the wringer.  Thankfully I have plenty of series to work people into as time moves on.

I don’t know what else to think about on this topic, but I am curious to hear what people think of this.  Do you put people you know in your books?  Are you a vengeful author?
