Starting tomorrow, the Monday/Wednesday/Friday posts will be the newest Ichabod Brooks tale. There are 8 parts as he takes on the challenge of the Starwind Egg! Today, we simply have a message to anyone who wishes to employee Ichabod Brooks:
To All Potential Employers
If you are reading this sign then I assume you have come with a job offer. You were possibly referred by a previous client or have heard a tavern tale about me. My reputation precedes me and I can assure you that some of it is warranted. The rest is embellishments and drivel created by bards who love money more than truth. So if you have come here to hire me for some fantastic quest that spans the globe then turn around and walk away. I am a simple man who is only interested in providing for his family.
If you are still reading this and wish to hire me then here are my rules:
I take half of the payment up front and it is delivered to my home. The job does not start until my wife confirms the money has arrived.
You will answer all of my questions about the job. Answering with ‘unimportant’ or ‘need to know’ is acceptable. Just know that if the information I requested turns out to be essential, I will have words with you later. Lie to me at your own risk.
I use my own equipment unless the job requires a special item. If that is the case then I will inspect it for curses prior to signing the contract with you.
Write your name on the contract. ‘X’ is not acceptable and the enchanted quill I use is easily angered.
Tell me if I am working alone or with others. I hate surprises.
I am allowed one souvenir of my choice to bring home to my son. It will not be anything that is needed by you, but something small that nobody will miss. This rule is non-negotiable.
Betrayal will be met with creative punishment.
If you agree to all of these rules then proceed to the house and I will meet with you. If I am on another job then my wife will discuss the more specific terms of our potential contract. Do not think that will make your life easier because she is the one who created the above rules. Good luck.
Thank you for your visit and potential business relationship.
Sincerely,
Ichabod Brooks & Family
P.S. – If you are here to attack my family then know that there are many traps on the property that react to aggression. Getting past them only means you face our pet ‘Beardy’. Defeat ‘Beardy’ and you must fight me. Kill me and my wife will be waiting. That will be the end of you. Have a good day.
Tomorrow is the day Legends of Windemere: Tribe of the Snow Tiger goes off Pre-Order and goes live. So I have a very small, teeny, tiny teaser that I can’t really put any explanation into because it’s only one paragraph. A big one though in terms of importance and impact.
Crimson lightning pounds the continent of Shayd and a chorus of screams sends boulders crashing into the ocean. The remaining chaos elves huddle in their caves, which are bathed in protective shells of green energy. Even with Yola’s shields, the terrified people still feel every shudder and spasm of their world. Undead randomly explode as shockwaves of magic burst from the castle, which has already lost one of its corner towers. All of the demons have retreated to the Chaos Void, leaving swirling vortexes that they peek through to see if it is safe to return to their jobs. With a final shriek of pain that ends with gleeful laughter, a new threat to the champions is born.
We’ve all been there. Minding our own business when we stumble onto a sign that there are dragons nearby. If we’re lucky, the beast is already gone or simply passing through the area. Yet there are times where they stick around. So here’s what to look for to see if you need an exterminator.
You haven’t seen the cat in days. Sure, Princess Tangerine wanders off from time to time. This feels different. Maybe it’s because she hasn’t reacted to you running the can opener over a loudspeaker. Could even be the that her food bowl is missing . . . along with the floor it was on.
There’s a lot of smoke in and around the house. You’ve called the fire department, but that hasn’t stopped the problem. Then again, the truck has been outside for the last few days, so maybe it’s a really big fight where you can’t see it. For now, just keep the ceiling fans on.
Sure are a lot of earthquakes lately. Nothing severe, but the house keeps shaking. It would make more sense if you were on a fault line. You’re not, but maybe it’s one that hasn’t been identified yet.
Somebody keeps leaving gold coins and gems around the house and yard. Not that you’re complaining. Finders keepers and all that. Still, it’s getting hard to explain to the bank and local jewelers. Also, gold coins are not as accepted as gold cards.
Random bursts of wind keep knocking trees over. This tends to happen along with sudden darkness that lasts for a second or two. You called the local weatherman who told you to use Facebook instead. Even then, all he could say is that predicting weather is more of an art than a science. You get the sense that he’s been drinking to forget something.
A band of short, armored men with an array of beards keep showing up on your doorstep. Sometimes they show up with a tall, old guy that spontaneously disappears for other business. You think you saw a kid with them too, but it could have been a trick of the light. Unlike the people with large saddles, these guys don’t seem to take ‘No’ for an answer.
Uh, you see a dragon. Seriously, they aren’t that good at hiding in suburbia.
Another book promo for a friend. I’ve read this one not too long ago, and could not recommend it enough.
The secret King Lethao is the first book book of the epic SciFi adventure. Book one takes you on an epic journey as the Aonise rush to flee their planet before it implodes. But their journey to planet Earth is far from smooth. Treachery, secrets, danger and battles all make for one exciting novel.
The Secret King is free to download for just two more days. So get your copy now. Leave Reality and step in the another world. myBook.to/TSK https://www.facebook.com/TheSecretKing
This kind of happened by accident with all these things happening on the first day, but I think it’s nice to kick off next month with a bang. How big a bang? Let us count the ways!
Ichabod Brooks & the City of Beasts (Cover by Nio Mendoza)
As I said months ago, Ichabod and his adventures will be moving to ‘Blog Only’. If I gather enough stories then maybe a collection in the future, but I have too many projects to tackle to focus on that. Yet, I don’t want Ichabod to fall by the wayside. Honestly, having a low pressure project like this and the ‘Raven’ stuff helps my nerves. Anyway, the first part of Ichabod’s newest adventure will go live on June 1st and continue on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule until all 8 parts are out. What is the title of this adventure?
Ichabod Brooks & the Starwind Egg
The bards are going to have a blast with this one.

Her Rancher Stepsons: A M/F/M, MILF, Stepson/Stepmom Menage
Description
Her Rancher Stepsons is a 10,000 word ultra-steamy romance novelette.
When Kelly’s much older husband is away for the weekend on business, she is left alone with her two 24 year old stepsons. Ryan is the rough and tumble rancher, hardworking, not afraid to get his hands dirty and determined to make a success of the ranch. He’s also struggling with the feelings he has for Kelly.
It’s Memorial Day weekend, so the wife and son are home on Monday. That means I won’t be tackling a new project until Tuesday. The plan is to edit Book 13 of Legends of Windemere and get my head together for Book 14. This will also give me time to promote:
Needless to say, it’s going to be an interesting week and the book debuts aren’t even the beginning. I’ve got the house to myself all day for the next week and a half, which means quiet and focus. I’ll be finishing the ‘Raven’s Hold’ sequel over the weekend and considered diving into a new project. The problem is that I wouldn’t get very far. Yes, I get the house to myself, but it means I’m also the only one to water the lawn, mow the lawn, cook dinner, clean stuff, and keep the place from falling apart. That’s the trade off when you go full-time author.
I’m finishing up the 4 guest posts that were requested to help promote the new book. I’m looking for others, but haven’t turned any more venues up. It is tough balancing all this stuff lately. Part of it might be the medical tests that are finally over. At least until something else looks funny on a scan. I know all of this was precautionary, but I had stuff to do and I’m getting tired of always having delays. Especially since a new Windemere book is coming. Wonder if it’s the stress that makes my heart look suspicious.
Feel bad that I have nothing else to report beyond a special event that deserves its own post tomorrow. It’s been fatherhood and authorhood while getting some stuff settled for quiet time. Then again, it isn’t that quiet since I need either music or the TV on while I work. The melodic song of the phone doesn’t count and is making me wish I could unplug the things. Can’t in case of emergency. That’s excitement for you. Author vs Phone: The Endless Struggle!
To be honest, this year is turning into a blur. I find myself barely remembering what happened last week and drawing blanks going back further. Does this stem for me being so done with 2016? Maybe I really haven’t done much to begin with. My real goal is to write all of the Legends of Windemere books in case I really do have to pack up my pens in 2017. That consumes my mind some times and I do worry that I’m rushing some of the stories. Specifically the one I’m going to edit soon. It won’t be out until next Spring, but I keep thinking I screwed up. Book 13 has a lot of returns, deaths, decisions, and basically pounds the heroes on the eve of their great battle. It isn’t pretty and all of the characters seemed off as I was writing it. There is a big reason why that I can’t mention here, but I hope it’s that and not me screwing up. Just a big ball of doubt, anxiety, and stress this year.
What do I plan to do this week?
Finish writing Raven’s Game.
Begin editing Ritual of the Lost Lamb.
Watch Tribe of the Snow Tiger go from pre-order to live and promote. Really hope this book hits a Top 100 list like the previous ones. This year isn’t looking too good.
Yay! I’ve been a bit busy these past few weeks working on the final edit and formatting for Hills and Valleys, the third book in my Ambeth series. And now I can happily say…. drum roll… it’s published!
‘Sometimes things call to us until we can no longer ignore them. And Ambeth is calling you, Alma.’
After the events of the Harvest Fair, Alma is finished with Ambeth – they can find the missing Cup and Crown without her. But Ambeth is not finished with her. First the mystery of her dead father comes back to haunt her, then the Dark reach out, hoping to trap her once more.
And then there’s the strange power she seems to have…
A question many authors are asked (and often hate to answer) is: Where did you get the idea for your book? I don’t usually mind answering this one, because I frequently know where the inspiration came from. However, it might sound peculiar to non-authors if I say that I once got the idea for a story by watching the water swirl in a mud puddle. That’s decidedly one of the more peculiar.
When it comes to Room 103, my newest romantic suspense, I remember well. I was staying at a small, privately owned motel in Pittsburg, Kansas, while visiting my mother and sister in nearby towns. As I was leaving the front office, I walked past a door that said Room 103. It seemed strangely out of place, because it obviously led to the owner’s apartment. Also, I couldn’t remember seeing a Room 101 or 102. With further…
