My Book Release

Big news! Jack Flacco’s book ‘Ranger Martin and The Zombie Apocalypse’ will debut tomorrow! Mark your calendars and prepare for horror.

It’s not every day I can say tomorrow I have a book releasing. It’s not as if I write a book every day. That’d make me one fast writer, for sure. It would also make me an incredible genius. Believe me, as much as I’d like to punch myself in the arm, no way would I consider myself an incredible genius. Not by a long shot.

For instance, I mess up directions whenever I go anywhere with my GPS. Somehow, the voice-assist stating, “800 meters, turn right” sets off a chain reaction in my brain that propels me to want to take the next right turn instead. Even if there’s 400 meters remaining for the turn. Also, I sometimes put on two different socks. But maybe you can forgive me in that respect since I do wake up at 5:00 A.M., and different shades of blue all look the same…

Book Review – Prodigy of Rainbow Tower

Newest book review of Prodigy of Rainbow Tower!

Pamela Beckford's avatarYear 'Round Thanksgiving Project

Okay, you know I don’t give the book synopsis when I do the review. You can read that on Goodreads or Amazon. This is about how I felt reading the book.

Bottom line, I gave it 5 stars and recommend it highly. Have you read it yet? No? What are you waiting for?

As a non-fantasy reader, I jumped into Beginnings of a Hero in the Legends of Windemere series and really enjoyed it. So, it made perfect sense for me to read the next book in the series, Prodigy of Rainbow Tower.

The adventures continued – and I mean adventures, as in many adventures. Always with a twist and always fun. The humor in these books makes me smile – but the adventures were amazing. Luke and Nyx and the others jumped from one interesting battle into another. I know what you’re thinking – that they always survive…

Limping On Into The Sun

A week of pain
Has been left behind
It seemed to try its worst
Death and sadness
Lackluster moods
A diet dashed to the rocks
All culminating
In a day of agony and stress

That time has passed
A week anew
I’m tired of the games
Deadlines can kiss my ass
Only miracles are overnight
I wish to go the distance
Forging my path
With a sword of my own design

Let’s Hear It for Goal Posts

Capybara

Capybara

This week is going to be busy with a lot of work and catch up.  It’s starting with a Breast Cancer Walk this morning as long as I can get my gut to calm down.  Been having to pop the dizzy pills a lot this week to fend off attacks.  In that arena, I have my follow-up with the gastro doctor on Thursday.  Should be fine unless they think tests are needed due to the sudden increase this week.  Funeral and trying to get two books ready for publishing might have done it though.  Nowhere to relax around here and not much support to relax anyway.  Getting the ‘you’re quitting after December 31st’ speech yesterday didn’t help even though he swears that isn’t what he means.  People around here wonder why my gut is always in pain.  Maybe my intestines are trying to escape to strangle me and put us out of our misery.

This is the last week of scheduled posts, so I’ll have to start working on ones for the next week.  Not sure about topics, so we’ll see what happens.  It will be on Halloween week, but I’m not sure I want to do a full week of that stuff.  Maybe on holidays in fiction or something to that extent.  I have so much to do.

The Post-Ramble Goals:

  1. Finish typing in hand edits for Legends of Windemere: Family of the Tri-Rune.
  2. Prepare Catalysts for Halloween release.
  3. Continue preparing Legends of Windemere: Allure of the Gypsies for release.
  4. Use the ‘stop these habits’ lessons from Ionia to clean up Legends of Windemere: Beginning of a Hero.  Might do this today.
  5. Cook dinners if able.
  6. Try to finish The Slumber War set up.
  7. Glare at wife for still not being done with Legends of Windemere: The Compass Key.  Been months.
  8. Possibly sleep in one day this week.  Can’t be Thursday because of 9 AM appointment.
  9. Drink until I forget that Dinosaur Erotica exists.  Thanks, Cracked.com for this nugget of knowledge.  You’re welcome to everyone for sharing this horror.  Why should I suffer alone?
  10. Get back into the exercising schedule.

Facebook and Twitter Options at WordPress (and Why You Should Use Them)

Helpful tips to help create a social media network for your book promotions and publishing needs.

Two Audiences Pic

If you don’t already feed your WordPress blog into Facebook and Twitter, you should. People who don’t blog here who may want to read your article (because someone was kind enough to share it with them, or because they discovered a link to it somewhere) may not want to create a WordPress account in order to subscribe to your blog. Facebook and Twitter provide two popular alternatives.

Even if you don’t currently use Facebook or Twitter, you should take a moment to open accounts there and to also create a Facebook page. (The how-to part of all these suggestions is described later in this article.) Don’t worry about not having friends or followers there yet. Feeding your blog into Facebook and Twitter is a handy way to get started there without having to do any work. Then you’ll feel that you’re actually using those services, and stop worrying about not…

Catalysts Creation (Feedback Requested)

Here is the cover made by Dean Kealy of Deanz Doodlez.  Please let us know how this looks, so we can adjust.  Is the cover creepy?  Are the title and author name clear enough?

I also worked a bit on the blurb and realized one act could fix some of the problems people mentioned.  Less is more here.  Let me know what you think:

“When trapped in an elevator together, Jeffrey and Darla learn that misery doesn’t always love company.  With the screams of death and chaos echoing from outside, they find themselves slowly slipping into a world of fear and darkness they may never recover from.  All the while, something is terrorizing the convention outside and turning the guests and celebrities into psychotic monsters.”

I’m going with the Horror and Occult/Supernatural categories because nothing in Thriller seemed to fit.  I know those are big categories that my little novella might get lost in, but I can’t see where else I would put them.

Does anyone have suggestions for the 7 keywords?  I don’t know what’s popular to use in this genre.  Any help would be appreciated.

W.I.P.- Breakdown? Invasion? I Don’t Even Have a Title

Jim Henson with the Muppets

Jim Henson with the Muppets

A while back, I mentioned I was going to restructure a lot of my ideas with merging, deleting, and altering stuff.  I also hinted that this is in response to a new idea that spun my mental gears around.  At first, it seemed like a fun and simple idea.  Now, I’m not too sure and I’m also scared that it crosses a line in terms of egotism.

The premise is a struggling fiction author has been getting rejected left and right while working crappy jobs.  Something happens to cause his characters to escape from his mind and into the real world.  Not sure if a head injury or he goes insane.  The first one feels cliche while the second might hinder him from being the hero.  Unless he gets saner as he wrangles up his characters, both heroes and villains.  The idea of a curse also came to mind, but that puts magic in the real world prior to his characters escaping.

I even played with the idea that I make another book where he combats an author whose trying to take over the world with their characters or invade other fictional worlds.  So, it would be one adventure in the real world and another in a fictional world.  Maybe the invasion of the author’s world is what triggers the escape.  Though, I might be going too far with the idea if I move beyond trying to gather characters in the real world.  An alternative could be one of the characters attempts world domination and comes close.

As you can see, I don’t have anything more than the basic idea.  I’m also lost on the following question:

Do I create new fictional characters or break that 4th wall entirely by using the Windemere characters for this?

I will admit that part of me likes the idea of Luke Callindor or Fizzle on Earth.  The idea of a character attempting world domination actually stems from an interest in turning a certain sorceress evil.  This isn’t even counting characters from the other series that are going to be coming up.  Again, it all depends on if this is a good idea and/or I blatantly claim it’s me.

In Review: Ranger Martin and the Zombie Apocalypse

Coming October 22nd! A new zombie book in time for Halloween!

Katie Sullivan's avatarThe D/A Dialogues

jack flacco - zombieWhen picking your ‘team’ for the zombie apocalypse, Ranger Martin should be high on your list. When picking a book to read – for the sheer fun of it or for the love of a good story – Ranger Martin and the Zombie Apocalypse, by Jack Flacco, should also be high on your list.

A tightly-knit story, woven together with humor, pathos and just-around-the-corner danger, Ranger Martin, was everything I wanted out of a thriller. It starts out with a bang, and doesn’t let up until the final page.

As I read, I felt as though I was riding along with Ranger Martin and the kids: I felt the desert air, felt the fear and thrill of adventure. Jack’s words made their struggles and fears mine as I read. Additionally, the camaraderie between the characters, and the relationships – kid-to-kid, and kid-to-adult – flowed naturally.

Ranger himself was, at turns…
