Poetry Day: First Snow

Yahoo Image Search

(This is pretty obvious.  One stanza is how kids look at snow and the other is for adults.  Funny how our perception of snow changes as we age.)

Children cheer for it.
The sign it’s time to play.
A coating of white
Across the graying world.
The children get up early
And race to play outside.
Knowing school is cancelled
For at least a single day.

Adults shiver in its wake.
The sign of work and cold.
A heavy blanket of white
Upon the cars and paths
The adults stumble out early
With shovel clenched in hand.
Knowing work will still go on
Unless they lose a payday.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I’d like to think I can still react like a kid. The meme was hysterical!

i used to react like a kid until the winter that my niece and nephew (when they were kids) said they prayed for snow and we got about 18 inches and temperatures below zero.

  3. Winter is so much different for the kids. Nicely done, Charles. The meme is terrific.
