Poetry Day: Didn’t I Just Bathe You?

It’s true

(This one is about parenting.  Obviously.  Thankfully, my son was never this destructive in a short amount of time.  He was too meticulous and carefully in his messes.)

It has only been ten minutes

Since you were rinsed and scrubbed

I dried you off and diapered you

Leaving you with mom

I went to get your bottle

That you have before you sleep

Yet your hair is all in tangles

And your feet begin to stink

I see toilet paper in place of pants

And a toothbrush in your shirt

I see mud upon your shins and knees

Where did you even find the dirt?

There is shaving cream around your belly

And a diaper is your hat

I wonder how you did this

When I left you so pristine

Somehow you have ruined my work

In such a tiny time

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

So true as well as poetic. Good thing bathtime was one of the most enjoyable parts of the day for both me and the kids!
