Poetry on the Page & Song in the Head

Words on the page
Transforming to a song
As they slip into your mind
Complete with orchestra
That no eye can see

A trick of the masters
To create a tune
Both memorable and pure
Without an instrument
Beyond the long-dried ink

How is this magic made?
Before it hits the screen
Songs so clear
Undeniably sweet and deep
Only uttered in the mind

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I’m one of those people that constantly have a tune in their head, even in my sleep. It took me years to learn not everyone’s like that.

  2. Nice! Funny, too, since one of my poems has evolved into a song in my head, and I hear it over and over. With stories, I just write them down to make the loop stop, but I don’t know how to write music, just sing it and sort-of-kind-of figure out what sounds the sheet music mean.

Love that poem! I sometimes think of tunes for the words I’ve written. But I can’t read music, so they won’t find their way into actual songs until I can learn to read music.
Wow. Tolkien’s tune is quite different from the one used in the movie!

  4. Loved the poem. Can’t say there is music in my head but does tinnitus count?

  5. Loved the poem. I’m forever humming something or another — often it bugs people actually, so I have to put a lid on it ๐Ÿ˜‰
