Women of Windemere: Kira Grasdon Poems

I Am Kira

I am me
Hidden behind
The me you expect
Mask firmly in place
Lines rehearsed
I am ready
To play the game

You underestimate me
Thinking me a prize
To woo and praise
My eyes on your wealth
When they are on the door
Biding my time
To politely cast you off

Smile when sad
Laugh when bored
The airhead act
Hiding my heart
Yearning for release
As I stroke my mask
Praying it will shatter

A Girl of the Game

Oldest child
Spoiled rotten
To the outside world
Allowed to roam
Through streets and dunes
Carefree to a fault

Tears adorn her face
The day she grew up
Introduced to higher ranks
Locking her mask in place
Wanderer restrained
Biding her time for release

A chance is given
When two debs brawl
And she stole a lot a wine
‘Accidental’ involvement
Pouncing on the prodigy
Who broke her nose

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.
