Poetry Day: The Random Remote Ruler

Spock from Firefly or Something

(I think most people know someone who will get the TV remote and then channel surf the whole time.  They won’t give up control even though they don’t know what they want to watch.  You either have to remain captive or go do something else. Gets rough when they stop on a bad show or movie for some reason.)

Every household has one
That the others come to fear
The one with a no track mind
And a flea’s attention span
It creates a nightly race
To get the precious remote
God forbid you lose

They change channels
In search of something
That they cannot explain
Passing shows worth watching
And movies rarely seen
Not listening to the family
Who wish they would go pee

Eventually they stop
On a show that no one wants
And they cannot explain
Roaming with every break
Never returning in time
Making the unwanted show
Even worse to view

The evening carries on
With no release in sight
They maintain control
As the shows get worse
The others start to fade
Giving up their seats
To go and read a book

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  3. I’ve done it myself. I’m usually good about it, but we don’t really have a TV guide anymore.
