Probably Made More Progress Than I Realize

The above video shows a character that I just stumbled onto when I randomly picked ‘Magi: Labyrinth of Magic’ to watch this week.  The original choice was ‘Fate/Zero’, but I had a really bad anxiety attack on Sunday.  Watching an anime where one of the bad guys enjoys killing children wasn’t a good idea.  That and I found it was a little too graphic for me.  ‘Magi’ was a lot more fun and light-hearted, but I just really enjoyed the character of Morgiana.  Freed slave from a warrior tribe whose kicks are powerful enough to break stone and is really fast.  There was also an odd innocence and bluntness to her that I found entertaining.  Starting to realize that I gravitate a lot towards female characters being my favorites in anime.  Anyway, that’s just explain the video choice and the gif I’m going to put at the bottom.

I had a lot of life stuff to do and the week began on the wrong foot with an anxiety attack that earned itself a post on Thursday.  So, I didn’t touch War of Nytefall: Temptation and I’m starting to wonder if that title is right.  The story revolves around several of the male characters being kidnapped for a tournament to earn the hand of the ‘Dawn Fang Queen’.  It’s going to be a Mab-heavy book.  I wonder if War of Nytefall: Rivals would be a better one.  Good thing I didn’t jump into the writing then.  All I accomplished was scheduling the M-W-F posts for July and August.  I have a list of topics for September too, but I can work on that after I write the next book.  This is a lot of progress on the social media front, but I think the weak sales and loss of another review has me wishing I could do more.  Feels like indie publishing is becoming a ‘rich man/woman’s’ game these days, which is frustrating.

As I said, this week was a big one in terms of non-author stuff.  Monday is rather blurry due to the anxiety attack, but the other days were errands and blogging set up.  I was starting to fall asleep by 2PM nearly every day.  Tuesday was going to my son’s Invention Convention where he displayed his ‘Fixer Gloves’ and hit the button on the DBZ headset that we told him not too.  Thankfully, he had been playing with it so much that it didn’t have enough juice to be loud.  So nobody really noticed Frieza yelling ‘Impossible’ while my son asked for a wrench.  We also had my son’s recorder concert, which was the big excitement for the week.  He had a blast and did really well from what I could see, but he was in the back and hard to spot all the time.  Mostly, I said a little hand waving high in our direction and a mop of dirty blonde hair bouncing around.  We’re getting close to choosing an instrument for 4th grade too unless he only wants to do chorus.

The weekend is going to be busy too.  Today has martial arts and we’re going to a local comic/anime convention.  My son gets to don his Green Lantern costume again while I’m steeling myself for crowds.  I think we have something else to do this afternoon, but it’s probably just laundry for me.  Sunday is a birthday party followed by a possible Lego set if my son eats without a fight.  Then, I promised to show him the first Pokemon movie and that will be the end for me.  I’m handing most of the evening martial arts classes over to my wife until I finish this next book, so this might be the last chaotic weekend for a while.  Then again, we have festivals all over the place, Memorial Day coming, and then this whole 13th anniversary trip to see ‘Deadpool 2’.  That last one is in June, which means I’ve deviated a lot from the weekend topic.

In other news, I managed to get my Kindle to work again, so I’m thinking of switching between manga and the books I have on there.  The poor thing wasn’t taking a charge for a long time, but I got it working, which means I can try to shrink my ‘To Read’ list.  One of my habits has been getting worse though.  Ever since high school, I’ve dozed off while reading.  It’s because I would read until I fell asleep, so I have this subconscious connection between reading novels and nap time.  Since I’ve been more tired than ever lately, it’s been worse.  Nothing says fun like drooling on your Kindle.  Manga requires a lot more page turning, so that keeps me going.  So, it’s going to be long hauls through the books and I’m going to start with the smaller ones.  There are some hefty tomes on my list that I don’t know if I can tackle with my full attention.  Baby steps here since I’m a notoriously slow reader to begin with.

So, what are the goals of the week?

  1. Start writing War of Nytefall: Temptation (or Rivals). Any preferences?
  2. Watch ‘New Legends of Monkey’ with wife.
  3. Dinners and laundry
  4. Homework with the munchkin
  5. Read Kindle and borrowed manga
  6. Test out blurbs for Quest of the Broken-Hearted. I’d do this Tuesday, so the scheduled post will be pushed to June 5th.  It’s a good one too because it was a requested topic, but putting it closer to the anniversary will probably help me in the long run.
  7. Avoid unexpected chaos.  One could dream.

Morgiana and Sinbad

For context, Sinbad wanted Morgiana to stay behind and not go into danger.  She bluntly denied his chivalrous request.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I like “Rivals” better, going by the bit you mentioned about the plot.

  2. Wishing you a super week. 😀

  3. Sounds like a fair mixture of life and work. That’s the way it’s supposed to be. My weekend is similar in that I’m getting some things done, and some chores done too.

  4. You sure had a busy week, I felt worn out just reading about it, lol.

  5. If your son is a little bit scattered, maybe choir would be the best choice. He will never leave his voice behind on the bus. 🙂

I’ll have to check out that anime. We watched Violet Evergreen and loved it, but every episode was a tear-jerker. Definitely looking for something funny to watch next.

    • I don’t worry about him forgetting stuff on the bus. Mostly because the district is used to it, so we’d get it back. It’s more him being distracted and not getting his instrument ready in time.

Not sure I could handle tear-jerkers. Always been more of an action adventure fan.

  6. Sometimes a little bit of writing can move you to the next point in the story. I find when I don’t get at least a sentence in or more on my projects, my moods tend to swing more. Have a good week, Charles! Hugs on the anxiety and life!

    • Thanks. I haven’t done any fiction writing for a week. Longer if you don’t count editing. So, I’m looking forward to diving into the next project. Especially since it’s going to be months before I touch on the next one.
