Moral and right
A paragon of virtue
Boring to the audience
Booed more than the villain
As if his goodness makes him bad
Yet one is needed in the fold
To be the balance
For the brutal vigilantes
And heroes on the edge
For this one will rarely falter
Staying on the path of right
And never earning
A single ounce of respect
Edit– Somehow this week’s poetry set became all about variations of Superman. I was going to hit up silent heroes, pacifist heroes, psycho heroes, career heroes, hunted heroes, and the hypocritical heroes (boy scouts that kill). Maybe I’ll save that for next week since I can’t get off this topic. Really surprised at all the variations there are of Superman, but there’s always some of his ‘core’ that remains.

I actually love Superman. It takes so much to remain good and set boundaries for yourself despite having such power.

I agree. I think a lot of people don’t pay attention to that aspect. Not sure why.

You are right, I hadn’t really though about it, but Superman, no matter the era never ever changes. 🙂

Sometimes it’s nice to have a stable character. Even though he’s had his rough points.

I agree, but I also agree with the word “boring” you used in your poem. Sometimes a stable character can become far too predictable to be fun.

That’s where things get into personal preference. Superman has a rather ‘boring’ personality in that he is a boy scout. You know he’ll do the right thing and many people these days prefer a hero who might edge into the darkness. It’s that boy scout persona that people tend to point at to claim he’s a terrible character.

I have always liked Superman for his calm nature. I’m sure it only comes through absolute power. (I also remember when the bad Superman came around. (Unshaven and breaking glasses in the bar with peanuts he was shooting with super speed..)

That was a confusing scene for a kid. I’m not sure if he ever went that evil in the comics. I would guess that he has though.

I love the old black and white t.v. shows.
That line, “Booed more than the villain…” it always drove me crazy when was at blame. It was effective at keeping my attention though.

I never saw any of the old show. Wonder if people can even find it these days.

I see many other b&w classics packaged for the holidays. Maybe modern is thought to be more popular.

Probably. I wouldn’t be surprised if the sellers are trying to get younger buyers to get these things for parents. Kind of like ‘get them a piece of their childhood’ and profit off nostalgia.
