Hero Poems: The Boy Scout

Superman the Movie

Superman the Movie

Moral and right
A paragon of virtue
Boring to the audience
Booed more than the villain
As if his goodness makes him bad
Yet one is needed in the fold
To be the balance
For the brutal vigilantes
And heroes on the edge
For this one will rarely falter
Staying on the path of right
And never earning
A single ounce of respect

Edit–  Somehow this week’s poetry set became all about variations of Superman.  I was going to hit up silent heroes, pacifist heroes, psycho heroes, career heroes, hunted heroes, and the hypocritical heroes (boy scouts that kill).  Maybe I’ll save that for next week since I can’t get off this topic.  Really surprised at all the variations there are of Superman, but there’s always some of his ‘core’ that remains.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

I actually love Superman. It takes so much to remain good and set boundaries for yourself despite having such power.

  2. You are right, I hadn’t really though about it, but Superman, no matter the era never ever changes. 🙂

  3. I have always liked Superman for his calm nature. I’m sure it only comes through absolute power. (I also remember when the bad Superman came around. (Unshaven and breaking glasses in the bar with peanuts he was shooting with super speed..)

  5. I love the old black and white t.v. shows.

That line, “Booed more than the villain…” it always drove me crazy when was at blame. It was effective at keeping my attention though.
