Timoran Wrath is a new character that appears in Legends of Windemere: Family of the Tri-Rune.  Now, I’m not going to do any themes here that spoil his story.  In fact, there isn’t much I can say about him.  He is a solid wall of honor, loyalty, and muscle.  Unlike Luke, Nyx, and Sari, he doesn’t cause or get into trouble.  His role ends up being keeping them out of trouble, which makes it hard to give him any conflict.  There’s still a few juicy themes behind him though.

Cultured Barbarian

Through Timoran, people will get a taste of Windemere’s barbarians.  Be forewarned, they taste of alcohol.  Typically, a barbarian is a tribal wildman who has no education and is prone to Hulk-type rages.  In Windemere, they are warriors with a sense of culture and philosophy.  The battle rage exists, but has been turned into a mindset that can be turned on and off when necessary.  This denotes an amazing level of self-control when someone tries to pick a fight with them.  People still see this huge guy with a big weapon and think he’s a dumb brute, so it gets interesting to see how Timoran handles it.  Of course, there will still be a few barbarians that fit the classic mold because every culture has its share of jerks.

Issues with Magic

This isn’t really a spoiler, but it’s a big part of him, so I can see some people thinking that it is.  Without going into details, Timoran is leery of magic like the kind Nyx wields.  He accepts holy magic and spirit channeling because those come from natural elements.  The manipulation of aura in any way is seen as an invasion of a living being’s essence.  Even throwing a fireball, which uses one’s own aura, is seen as putting someone of your own aura into that of another without permission.  It’s explained better in the book.  Timoran is torn here because he has no problem with Nyx and doesn’t hate what she does.  He simply doesn’t trust it and must figure out how to accept what she does.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. Almost a rugby approach: a hooligan’s game, played by gentlemen. Interesting.

    • It’s not really that he doesn’t understand. He has a philosophical issue with it. As he explains in the book, he sees her type of magic as an intrusion of the natural order. He respects those who do it and has no personal issue with them since he’s fought alongside many casters. He’s simply uncomfortable with it being used on him and fears that too much power can corrupt someone.
