Followers of Identity

Why do some just follow?

Altering their outer shell

To become another being

A muted copy

Of another that they praise

Do they hate their soul?

Disgusted by what they are

Wasting strength

To transform into a butterfly

When they were born a tadpole

At what point do they stop?

Settling into a comfortable skin

Putting an end

To the constant flaying

That leaves them a patchwork poser

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  2. Excellent poem, so many people are posers because they don’t like who they are. It is so sad.

    • I wonder if it’s that they don’t like who they are or they are blind to who they are. I know some people who admire various celebrities and want to be like then at the cost of their own talents. Such as a talented painter who is focused more on acting, which they’re bad at.

  5. I don’t know if this makes sense, but this poem has a very “gray feeling” that works so well with the bleakness of the subject. It’s not boring at all. It feels real. And the truth it expresses is universal, which is difficult to do. Great!
