This is the pile or at least what happens when I gather all of my writings. I think I missed a notebook or two also because I just noticed one poking out of the bookcase where I put it two weeks ago. I think it’s the one where I converted all of my stories into Windemere, so I stopped getting confused. I was also too lazy to go into a small fireproof safe I have that I keep a collection of moleskin notebooks. Not even sure what’s in those any more since they’re from first quarter of 2006.
Anyway, this is the culmination of someone who started planning books at the age of 15 and is now 32. The marble notebooks on the right are all high school and early college. The big spiral notebooks are from sophomore year of college and one of them is Legends of Windemere. The purple spiral is junior year and almost everything else is senior year of college until today. The marble notebook on the left is where the current versions of characters and stories are being slowly created on weekends.
This is my arsenal of imagination. I think I’m prepared. 🙂

A truly impressive collection of notebooks! I have my fair share, but I tend to chuck them when I’m done with them. That probably isn’t very authorial of me, but … well, space is limited, and once I’ve got it down on the computer and backed up on the external, I feel fairly confident I won’t lose anything. I should start keeping my notebooks, though, like you. Hmm …
Oh, and I tried to Like this post, but WordPress is being finicky, so my apologies!

I’ve how WordPress days like that. I shake my fist at the computer or threaten to hand it over to a toddler, which gets it working again. 🙂
I used to back up my notebooks on computer, but I found that it was harder to look through them when writing the books. Also, notebooks can’t catch viruses or crash from corrupted hardware. Lost all of Legends of Windemere once because of a broken disc. Thankfully, I usually just chucked the notebooks into a drawer or under my bed. I made a writing desk in high school woodshop specifically to house them. It’s been taken over by my wife’s scrapbooking, but the books are safe.

It really is easier to flip through a physical notebook/book, isn’t it? I think that’s why I’m having trouble getting into the whole eReader thing. I can’t get over the fact that I can’t just flip around willy nilly through the book. It’s stifling, I tell you! Stifling!

I’m having trouble with that too. I like seeing where I am or going back to check things that sound like I should have seen coming. I think I’ll get used to it if I read more e-books. At least I assume I can. Not sure if I’ve reached ‘old dog’ status and can’t learn any new tricks. 🙂

I think we’ll get used to it eventually. Heck, a year ago I thought a smartphone was a waste of money. Why do I need a phone that’s basically a computer when I already have a functioning computer? But now I don’t leave the house without it.

I still don’t have a smartphone. I’m big into texting and my wife loves having a camera on her phone, but I’m not sure about having a phone with internet on it. I type too much to think I’d get much use out of blogging on a tiny phone. Though, my song can change once I get one.

Oh, it will. They’re crazy useful. Not so much for blogging or writing, but definitely great for looking up movie times, pulling up a restaurant menu / phone number, figuring out where the heck you are (used that handy feature last week when I failed at giving directions), etc.

My parents have smartphones and I keep seeing them have trouble with them. I see a few neat uses, but the agita seems to be extreme. Now, if the smartphone can babysit my son and give my wife and I a chance to go out then I’d be sold immediately. 😛

Just record your voice saying random phrases, like “Don’t do that” and “Don’t put that in your mouth” and “Go watch TV”. Problem solved!!

We tried that with a tape recorder once to see what he would do. He followed the voice and uncovered the recorder. Not sure how he did it, but we came back to find he had taped over our message with him babbling. He loves buttons.
