Poetry Day: The Toilers

Boromir telling the truth

(Yeah . . . I want to change the title of this poem, but I find the potential accident too funny.)

In weather sweet or sour

They are found at work

Sweating in the fields

Or wasting in the cube

They push to carry on

Exhausting mind and body

With a spirit barely held

They labor through the yawns

Forgetting broken dreams

That will always haunt their sleep

A longing eye looks out

Briefly to the world beyond

They wish to stop their work

If even for a moment

To enjoy what little time they have

Before they die in vain

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

I misread the title as “The Toilets” briefly. 😂😂

But when I read the poem, I thought of parents, teachers, writers, and other worker-bee occupations that often go unappreciated.
