Poetry Day: Not Sick Enough

Fry Meme

(I think many of us have been in this situation.)

Though limbs ache with every twitch

And you cough more than your breathe.

Your head swims without much cause

Turning your stomach instead out.

You are made to carry on.

No fever to prove you’re really sick.

Pride stops your food from rising.

The fact you walk is against your case.

No rest is given for your ails.

Until your body can take no more

And lays crippled upon your sheets.

You are deemed not sick enough.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

That’s how some bad colds or viruses (like that awful stomach flu) are unfortunately. Doctors refuse to give an antibiotic because “you’re not sick enough.” 😔😔😔 Meanwhile you’re feeling awful.

MDs refuse to give antibiotics for viruses because they don’t work on viruses. Oh if we only had a cure for the common cold! My husband doesn’t think I’m really sick unless I take to my bed!

I’ve struggled with hand pains for years now, yet doctors can’t figure out why and apparently “my hand hurts a lot when I write” isn’t legitimate or valid as it isn’t the same as a fracture or sprain. Totally could resonate with this 🥲

Before I received my diagnosis of Fibromyalgia I was gaslighted to no end for years. Even with this diagnosis, most people, including medical, still don’t understand how bad it is, and some still don’t believe it’s a thing.
Your words resonate so much. It’s like, WHY would I want to pretend to feel like this?
Wonderfully said. Thanks for sharing 🤗💗

    • I’ve heard that fibromyalgia is looked at as faking even by professionals. Do people not know much about it?

It seems everyone has heard of it but those who know anything about it are extremely rare. I got diagnosed and dumped. No onward referrals for help from a pain team or physio, or even occupational therapy to advise on aids to asssit with daily tasks. I’m even having to feel my way forward with pain relief on my own at great expense, as the health service here is doing nothing.

Nobody has even outlined the symptoms or told me to expect other immune issues, which I’m only now discovering as they happen to me, and also from a UK Fibromyalgia group online, and that’s fellow sufferers. We support one another but can’t really advise. And whilst there are tons of similarities, each of us has a unique experience.

Research has discovered some physical markers of the disease but no one is funding it to take it forward. It’s a bit like it used to be with MS before they discovered brain plaque via MRI scans, then all of a sudden it existed, lol.

        I hope you’re doing well.

        Thanks for asking. Hugs 🤗💗

      • That sounds terrible and should be a mark of shame on the medical community.
