Mel Brooks
(I really don’t know what triggered this one. Clearly, I was angry at someone who had power and influence.)
Edicts and procedures
Hurled from the mountaintop
Forcing the drones to moan
Adding complications
To a convoluted system
Steps of unimportance
Yet lethal if ignored
A forest’s worth of forms
Created for this foolishness
Jobs are changed to fit
Like square pegs in a blender
Confusion and frustration
Run rampant through the cubes
The proclaimers ignore this
Saying all is well
Ignorant of the destruction
They leave in their wake

Sounds very frustrating! Good leaders are sorely needed. It’s frustrating when someone just barks an order but doesn’t take into consideration how people feel or whether or not what was ordered is possible. Also frustrating when leaders abuse their influence.

You see it happen so often too. It’s like those who would be great leaders are stuck as drones. Those who want power get the top spots.

It sounds like me when I used to have a conversation with my boss. Good one Charles.

All too relatable. I had bosses in the past who were massive hypocrites and I wish I would’ve called them out on it when I saw that stuff on site. It also doesn’t help when they listen to others more than you when you need help or need to report something.

Hypocrites with power are terrible. There’s really no way to effectively handle them either unless you can ally with someone more powerful who will listen.

Yeah, and it’s super rough. It gets tough when they metaphorically hold a paycheck over one’s head. You call them out, and treated like the bad guy. You stay silent, and you just stew everything on the inside because no one listens.

And they wonder why good employees end up leaving.

Bingo. Thankfully, I was able to leave one job this year on my own terms even if I didn’t completely despise everyone, but there were hypocrites in high-up positions at that place.
