Goal Post: Not an Author Week

So, I’m going to start with something weird.  People need to stop hoping I have a good week.  Only because the opposite seems to occur when I or other people do this.  Chaos rules and I’m left sore, sad, and dragging myself through the weekend.  This isn’t a weekend for rest either, which means I’m not entering the week with full energy.  Let’s just hope I survive or something.  Maybe hoping is what causes whoever controls the universe to start whacking me upside the head?

Last weekend did work out for the most part.  My friend came over to hang out even thought it was a day shorter than planned.  Things came up, but we got things to work out and spent most of our time playing video games.  That was something I needed because I knew this week would be rough.  Could only imagine what shape I’d be in if I didn’t get a few fun days in.  Hard enough functioning after my calf muscle locked up in my sleep one night and my right shoulder ached during a rainy day.  If the body is falling apart then the mind needs to stay strong . . . Well, I’m boned!

As I said in the title, I didn’t get any author stuff done.  I’m hoping to put more edits into the final draft as the week progresses and get it all done next weekend.  Oh, this is for War of Nytefall: Eulogy and I’m still getting blog posts ready for that too.  It’s a lot of juggling, which I can’t do at work since my laptop is no longer portable.  Tried closing it earlier this week and heard a crack from the casing that made me stop.  Can’t afford a new machine right now and it still works as long as I keep it open.

So, what did most of my week entail?  Parenting and work.  The latter was busy with PSAT’s and preparing for future events.  All I can say there.  Parenting was crazy because my son had a big math test.  He also seems to have joined a club, but doesn’t remember when and how.  It’s fun though, which is a plus.  Of course, he came back from a trip with a cough, which caused headaches.  You can imagine what had to be done and what people were thinking.  Thankfully, I got everything taken care of and he didn’t miss any school for what is a dwindling cold.  Better safe than sorry these days, but it’s a lot of stress on an already worn psyche.

I’m also trying to figure out breakfast for him, which will help with a certain aspect of his health.  This is very dangerous to mention on a blog because I know people will come rushing in with their opinions.  That’s why I’m being vague.  Of course, I’ll sit here wondering where they’ve been when I’m promoting my books and if they’ve bought copies of the War of Nytefall series.  Thankfully, I’ve already been told what to do and how to do it, but the trick is getting him to eat in the morning.  You can bring a kid to food, but you can’t make them eat, especially with a deadline.  So, I’m looking at a few weeks of trail and error.  Our first morning was a partial success though.  The sandwich failed horribly because it fell apart, but I think I figured out how to make it better and remove the unnecessary pieces.

I might try to type up some of my hand edits or blog posts this weekend, but I doubt I’ll have the time.  Got a family event one day and an important outing with my son on the other.  Promised video game time too since he hasn’t gotten to try ‘One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3’.  Honestly, I’ll be happy with low levels of stress, but I’m not going to hold my breath on that considering what’s going on.  If I can get a few blog posts written by the end of the weekend then that’s good enough.  I can do editing throughout the week if I get any time at night.  Think I have 194 pages to do and it’s just typing in the changes I wrote on the printout.  That shouldn’t take long, right?

Obligatory television paragraph is rather thin.  I started an anime called ‘Magic Users Club’ and stopped 8 episodes in because I wasn’t following it.  Jumped to the newest episodes of ‘Leverage: Redemption’, but I didn’t rush through.  So tired that I put on old sitcoms most nights and watched until I dozed off.  Haven’t decided on what I really want to watch, especially with a weekend to myself coming up.  I like action, fantasy, sci-fi, and anime, so all of the serious and gory stuff people are into don’t appeal to me.  Maybe I’ll toss on a classic anime like ‘Trigun’ or ‘Desert Punk’.  Saving ‘Cowboy Bebop’ for when I see a release date for the live-action version.  Going to be staying on the fence about that one for a while since I can’t tell anything from what they’ve shown.

So, goals of the week?

  1. Work
  2. Help son with schoolwork.
  3. Blog posts for War of Nytefall: Eulogy
  4. Type in edits for War of Nytefall: Eulogy
  5. Try to get a good night’s sleep
  6. Whatever I remembered around #2 and forgot
  7. Possibly get a Lego set specifically for me.  Struggling with the price tag since I always have trouble buying fun stuff for myself that isn’t on a clearance rack.
  8. Prepare the Sunday posts I keep forgetting.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

I’m delighted to hear that you are a Leggo afficianado. My son has been all his life – we have a storage unit packed with them. I am hoping he can sell some of them – it might set him up for life!

    • Thanks. Though I don’t think I’d call myself an aficionado. It’s mostly a father/son thing with a focus on whatever my son is into. It’s died down because I don’t have much space. Corners of rooms have sets stashed in various states of collapse. Wish we had a spot to set them all up like a Legos room. Maybe one day.

Glad you were able to have some fun time with your friend last weekend. Good luck with the breakfast thing with your son, and with getting that editing done.
