Goal Post: Pass the Seltzer and Hand Me a Slice

You know it’s been a week and going to be a weekend when I write this up on a Thursday and schedule it.  Sure, something may have happened yesterday, but I’ll add it if it’s anything I can or should announce.

Three day weekend is here and I’m hanging with a friend to goof off for a bit.  Some serious stuff being done, but we both need the time to chill out.  Video games, movies, pizza, and maybe a little alcohol.  Nothing major beyond decompressing and getting ready for next week.  After all, this one was crazy busy and the next one is going to be shorter for school and work, so it’ll be the same.  Amazed that we’re so close to the end of the year too, which has me bugging.

Why am I bugging out so much about this?  I have less than 2 months to finish editing War of Nytefall: Eulogy, write the blurb, give it to a reader, and set up a month of posts for December.  I finished the hand editing this week, so I’ll start putting things into the computer soon.  Not sure how long this will take, but I’m hoping to get it done before the end of October and send the manuscript off.  Then, I’ll work on the blurb.  I can get posts done when I have a little time, but not enough to do editing.  The topics might be a bit flimsy for my taste since I don’t know where to go with this being a major finale with a lot of twists and turns.  We’ll have to see how things go.  The character interview idea already full flat because not many people participated, so I switched it to a weekly promo for the whole series.

Of course, finishing the editing leaves me with no project during my off periods at work.  I could just stare at the ceiling and recover my energy given this week.  Instead, I grabbed a new notebook and decided to tackle ‘Phi Beta Files’. I even found my old notes, which make absolutely no sense.  Is this a 6 book series done in short story style or each volume has a chapter-by-chapter story?  Can I have 4 main characters and a support structure of nearly 12 characters that come and go?  Are there really no women in the hero list for this series?

To explain ‘Phi Beta Files’, this is about a mercenary squad academy and the heroes are a team of 4 instead of the usual 6.  They’re screw-ups, miscreants, and expected to wash out, but they find ways to survive.  It was like a combination of ‘Animal House’ and ‘Starship Troopers’ with a fantasy setting.  This is also based off my college days, so the characters all have a real-world component.  The crew I hang out with was predominantly male since we were doing a mock fraternity shtick.  So, the group ended up being that way in the book, which has me wondering if I should do some gender-swapping here.  Feels kind of insulting to whoever I pick though.  Maybe I’ll figure it out over the weekend since my friend is from that crew.

Time with my son was usually schoolwork because he had to get as much done as possible before Friday.  He got his second Covid shot though, which went smoothly.  He was scared, but made it through and was happy to get it.  Even happier to get a peach Slurpee afterwards.  Not much else happened on this front since we had so much work to do and the weather was good enough for him to play outside with the other kids.  One of the best parts about autumn is my son being able to run around outside with the neighbors without getting overheated, drenched, or frozen.

Television was okay.  I watched the last 12 episodes of ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’, which was kind of sad.  The series got a little messy during Season 4, but I held in there.  The ending felt a bit rushed too, but there was closure.  I moved on to ‘How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord’, which is another anime.  I didn’t expect it to be so perverted.  Season 1 was okay because there was enough action and comedy for the fan-service to be overshadowed in my mind.  Season 2 seemed to depend a lot on fan-service, which had me putting the series to background noise.  Easier to do that than to go through the streaming service to delete all of the episodes.  Not sure what I’ll tackle next though.

I need to find a day to reveal the War of Nytefall: Eulogy cover and ask for more blog tour volunteers.  Doesn’t look like weekend posts hit very well.  So, I might pick a Thursday afternoon to do this.  Not this week since I might be too busy to respond to comments until the evening.  Best to wait a bit since I have time.

Goals of the week:

  1. Have a fun weekend.
  2. Help my son catch up on school work.
  3. Work hard at work.
  4. Start computer editing War of Nytefall: Eulogy
  5. Start making December posts about War of Nytefall: Eulogy.  Any questions?
  6. Get pizza at some point.
  7. Start working on ‘Phi Beta Files’.
  8. Sleep is nice.
  9. Remember what I know what I’m forgetting.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I find that Tuesday and Thursday are good days. Weekends are slow, and everyone posts on Mondays, so it’s easy to get lost.
