You want to join
And taste sweet victory
Even for a moment
Regardless of yourself
To dive into a sea of cheers
And swim to your own dreams
*
The trend is a stepping stone
A door left open
That many have found
The frame is cracking
So there is not much time
To stake your claim
*
This is not your genre
Brutal learning curves
Old habits in the way
Yet you carry on
Sure that it will be the move
That brings you to your goal
*
Successes have racked up
Your name is known
It is time for true love
The series of your dreams
Can now be written
But are you allowed outside your box?
(Basically, this is about how some authors jump on a bandwagon to get their name out there. A good move if you can work within the trend, but it has a risk. That would be getting known for the trend and not having anyone follow you to a project that you planned first, but isn’t in that arena. So, one should weigh this possibility when looking into the move.)
This is great! And so true. Many follow the trends are or tempted to do so. Some people are good at knowing what trends to pursue and equally good at getting their book out there to ride the wave. Every time I’ve tried, the trend ends just as I’m getting started. Some trends have such a short window. Or they die out for a few years and return–long after I’ve lost interest.

Trends do die very fast. You need to see it coming or be able to crank out a fast entry. I think many that jump on rush it and that’s why you get a wave of poorly written stories. It hurts the genre/trend to the point where it’s a mockery.

I admire those who can be opportunists and jump on a trend. Me? I’m too slow-moving. Super poem, Charles.

Same here. I’m too wrapped in my own stuff to notice.

It would be wonderful to predict trends with enough time to do something about them. I’ve never been that guy, so I just keep doing what I do.

I think it’s typically the trendsetter and maybe 2-3 people afterwards who reap the full benefits.
