The drinkers of life
Act as nobles
Within the ranks of beasts
A glimmer of their past
Fueled by ego
A key to their strength
Hiding in plain sight
No fur or scales
That would reveal their presence
Standing next to their prey
Who is none the wiser
And not much longer for this world
Few can challenge the vampire
Strong and fast
A force of rage-fueled destruction
Leading armies
Of vermin and mortals
A legend among myths
That will last until the end of time

This was inspired by the idea that vampires are the lords of all monsters. It really depends on the breed, but they do seem to be the most popular and infamous.

Great poem! Why do you think vampires are so fascinating to readers? I’ve always been curious about that.

I’m not sure. It probably changes by society though. Some see them as terrifying monsters while others see them as beautiful symbols of immortal lust. It could be that their human appearance makes them oddly relatable in some fashion. We can see ourselves becoming one while remaining ourselves, which is different than becoming a more bestial zombie.

What’s interesting about your series is that you have other species besides humans as vampires. That’s diversity!

Opens the door for a lot of variety too. Though I do seem to do more human than others. Maybe humans are simply more likely to stumble into the path of a vampire. We’re not the most aware species compared to elves and dwarves.

Vampires are definitely a favourite! I still remember my younger days larping. We used to play Vampire: the masquerade. I also still have all of my Magic: The Gathering cards… Yes, vampires are beloved everywhere by geeks like me. 😉😅

I did the tabletop more than the LARP. I tried LARPing twice and they didn’t go so well. It was a lot of fun to get groups that were combined from all of the World of Darkness systems. Had one where it was Vampire, Werewolf, and Mage.

Interesting mix! We stuck to vampires mainly, we had the different factions pitted against each other (I was Malchavian… Clinically insane, who would have guessed that for me?? 😉).

Part of the shift came from the DM’s. One loved to mix things up and wanted to get some werewolf in there. That’s why his games were a vampire/werewolf mix. The other became obsessed with Mage, but one player (me) didn’t want to retire his vampire, so we had to change things up. Think we had one crossover with those games that didn’t work out well.

Ha ha!!! Understandable! Sounds like a D&D game I was a part of once. We all used regular templates to make our own characters. I was an anime schoolgirl who used school books to fight. I had magic abilities depending on the school books I had with me. 🤓🤓💖

That would have worked great in the ‘Big Eyes, Small Mouth’ system. My friends and I tried something like that with Vampire, but it didn’t go so well. Really showed that most people wouldn’t make a badass vampire without decades of experience.

Not to mention that Vampires are commonly depicted as wealthy figures who are able to recruit other types of creatures for their organizations. They might gather blackmail, hunt them down and threaten to expose them, or even just hire then. So a Vampire could really be a “lord/lady” of these other monsters.

The wealth makes sense since they don’t have to spend a lot of money. They don’t have to buy food and those with charm abilities can get everything else.
