Back in the Fantasy Saddle & Struck by a Lightning Bolt

Explicit lyrics below:

This week didn’t go as smoothly as I’d hoped.  I mean, they never do, but this one resulted in me being 2 chapters behind where I wanted to be.  Probably overreached here.  One day was lost to getting taxes handed in and then food shopping.  The weather was really miserable, which put me in this lethargic state that lasted into the next day.  So I got some work done, but not as much as I wanted.  Don’t worry though.  I had a plan that would make Thursday full of progress even with a morning appointment.  What could possibly go wrong?

A howling windstorm with lightning and pounding rain knocked out the power.  First, it sputtered around midnight, so I fixed the clocks.  Turned on the weather to see what was coming and had to wait through the traffic part.  Power went out again 10 seconds into the weather and the cable box had to reboot.  Got back in time to see the traffic again.  Saw the storm would be done by morning, so plan was still in . . . why did everything turn off? Next is where the kid woke up at 5 AM because he lost blankie.  He was fine until we told him that the power was out.  He seemed to feel obligated to be scared, so that was a bunch of consoling.  By the time we got him off to school, I was exhausted, the laptop was whining about there being no Internet, and the cellphone was barely behaving.  Power came back at 1:15 PM, so all I could do was play catch up before the kid came home.  That simply put the nail in my writing goal’s coffin.

That was really it for excitement this week.  Ritual of the Lost Lamb is starting off a little slow, but I’m trying to get back into fantasy mode.  Think one issue is that I remembered the outline wrong and had to rewrite a few pieces.  A returning character showed up  7 chapters too early and so did a cruel action by the Baron.  So that took an afternoon.  Getting back on track, but it’s really getting hard to juggle so many characters in one scene.  Thankfully, the group is going to be splitting up for a bit, which gives me a reprieve.  Just gets weird when I know Dariana or Timoran are standing there with nothing to say.  Not as strange as Sari being silent, but I kind of want every character to be involved.

Let’s see . . . Crossing Bedlam still exists.  That’s really all I can say about that.  It isn’t selling or gathering any reviews beyond the first two.  No Top 100 list for this one unless it rockets to sales this week.  Again, I find myself wondering about writing a sequel.  I love the characters and world.  It’s a great release of adrenaline and crazy for me after the heavier tones of Legends of Windemere.  But these books take time and still some money for publishing.  As an artist, I want to keep going with it.  As the guy who is routinely asked about the money side of things and finding a ‘real job’, I’m having my doubts.  I’ve had a lot of suggestions on why this book isn’t selling, so we’ll see what happens.

You can tell I don’t do much with my life since this is the same stuff every weekend.  I write, I parent, I eat, I bike if I can, and I wear myself down to the bone.  Started watching ‘Falling Skies’ on DVD, which is fun.  I’m not into the big, popular shows like ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Walking Dead’, so I’m not in those loops.  Last movie I saw was ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ with the kid.  Next one will probably ‘Batman vs Superman’ in April for the birthday.  See how all the interesting stuff happens in my head, but spoilers are a risk in that arena.

So, what’s the plan for the week?

  1. Keep writing Ritual of the Lost Lamb.
  2. Keep watching and promoting Crossing Bedlam.
  3. Maintain biking habit.
  4. Nod and blankly stare when people talk about the Oscars.
  5. Block more political people on FB.
  6. Parent/teacher meeting.
  7. Hand tissues to wife when job hunting drives her insane again.
  8. Food shopping at some point.
  9. Accept that it’s already March.
  10. See how long I can ponder the state of the world before I grab a bottle of alcohol.
  11. Suggest an adult coloring book site to everyone:

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Oh Charles. What a week! I so hate power outages! And you guys have had enough bad weather to last a lifetime! I hope this week is better.

    • The weather hasn’t been as bad as previous years. The snow storms were a little frustrating because the winds made drifts. The annoying thing is that it goes from 20’s to 50’s and back again in the span of a week.

Gah! Lots of sympathy from me. Few things more frustrating than having your writing plans thwarted. I hope you are soon back on track..
