How do you write poetry?
A curious question
With no true answer
For it depends on style
Subject
And the mind behind the words
Follow the rhythm
Either by dream or plan
To put your heart
Onto the empty white
None can forge this poem
Besides your hands and mind
About Charles Yallowitz
Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.
How do I write?
All right, I’ll bite.
Let me put you wise:
As an exercise,
Each night I pour
A dozen words or more
On a page and see
What comes to me.

For some reason I keep thinking of someone writing a grocery list or errand list every night. Does that count? 😛

I liked the hands and mind reference.

Thanks. I tried to go further, but that just felt like an ending.

I like the hand and mind connection too Charles. Well done!

Thanks. Thought it would be longer, but it didn’t happen that way. Still good though.

“To put your heart onto the empty white” sounds about right. 🙂

Yup. Though might be off white depending on the paper you use. Have a few yellow notebooks too. 😀

How I wish there were a formula
a recipe or grocery list
that makes writing prosody
as easy as one two three
mix the words and let them rise
like baking bread or maybe pies
hmmm … when it comes right down to it
I guess a poem is nothing more
than writing a story or dialogue
(sometimes with rhyme)
but without paragraphs! 😉
Have a good one dear Charles!

You’re welcome. One of my favorite descriptions I’ve heard of poetry is that they’re songs without music.

Pretty much … though Olde Foole wouldn’t probably agree with you … he says he writes songs and poetry and they’re not the same thing 😉

I guess it depends on the style then.

I suppose so … but to me they’re poetry 🙂
