Still Alive!

This has been an exhausting week.  Seriously, my head is still spinning and, at the writing of this post, I’m not sure what happened.  Events, appointments, working, cleaning, cooking, and . . . stuff.  I really hate to dive into a list already, but that might be all I can do to show the busy week I had.

  • Kid’s birthday party last Saturday.  Person showed up in Leonardo (TMNT character) and son was not amused.  He’s still going on about being scared as I write this.
  • Kid’s birthday party last Sunday.  Outdoor BBQ and I wore black.  Oops.
  • Went on school field trip to Aquarium with son on Monday.  He was surprised to see me waiting at his school since I beat his bus there.  The excitement was definitely worth the ‘loss’ of a writing day.
  • School district voting on Tuesday.  I walked there and it was raining a bit.
  • Grocery shopping on Tuesday.  Walked there from voting area, which was a further trek than I expected.
  • Returned to son’s school for VIP day.  Son excited to see me sit in a class lesson about lemonade.
  • Started writing Book 11 of Legends of Windemere after making a cheat sheet.  This could have been Monday or the weekend though.
  • Watering the lawn every other day, which includes a point where one of the sprinklers changed settings.  Take a guess who got nailed in the face with water.
  • Mowed the lawn on Wednesday.  Forgot how bad my hay fever gets and spent rest of day gasping for air.
  • Scolded by son for not going back to his school.
  • Epic mess to clean.  This one is being written down for future embarrassment.
  • Took a nap on Thursday and woke up more exhausted than when I started.
  • Keep in mind that I’ve been cooking, cleaning, and kid wrangling every day.
  • Wrote first 3 chapters of Book 11, which is actually 1 shy of what I’d hoped.
  • Friday morning saw me waking up early to figure out what that freaking beeping was.  Basement carbon monoxide sensor needed new batteries.
  • Saturday involves an appointment, laundry, helping sister move stuff out of basement, and wrangling child.
  • There were 2-3 interviews I had to fill out too.

Those are the big events and I put in late nights to get through emails, Tweets, and other online things.  My usual ‘back up’ is also away for awhile, so I’m the only one holding down the household.  So if somebody uses the last of something I need for a dinner and I don’t realize until I start cooking then I have to improvise.  I tried my best to keep up with the online stuff, but I don’t think I did very well.  Keep in mind that I was burnt out before all of this.  Next week will hopefully be a little milder.  I do lose the desktop for night work and this screen makes my laptop feel like an iPhone.

In author news, I’m pretty well set for the June 1st release of Ichabod Brooks & the City of Beasts.  For now, I’m doing a post here and maybe I’ll ask later in that day if anybody wants an email of the post to put it up at a later date.  Keep wanting to try a minimal marketing approach, so we’ll see what happens.  I’m going to be writing away when I have time this week. Need to get out of a messy plot hole.  A piece of information never had a chance to come to light, which makes an event seem odd.

Anyway, here the goals and some notes:

  1. Continue writing Book 11.
  2. Prepare Character Theme Song post for tomorrow.  At the time of this writing, I only need a song for Timoran.
  3. Teaser Tuesday possibly delayed. Might have a bunch of anthology promo interviews going up on Monday and Tuesday.  Sorry about that.

  4. Aiming to do a TWUBS Chat next Saturday from 8-11PM EST.  Instructions will be posted that day.

  5. Admit that the Goal Posts are going to be on a weekend day that I feel like using.

Final note: This is the song that made me think of doing tomorrow’s Character Theme Song post.  Anybody want to guess who this is going to connect to? (Yes this will be used in the post too.)

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  2. I may be all wet but I thought of Lich when I listened. I’m with Nicholas about the mess.

    • Very close. Old Tyler is still a tough one for me to figure out. Though ‘Scum of the Earth’ by Rob Zombie wasn’t suggested by a friend. Might have to do a villain theme song post one day. Then again, I put Trinity into this one because I had a perfect song.

  5. I’m exhausted just reading that! I don’t know how you managed to fit any writing time in. I’m so glad you had a good trip Monday, and I loved your comment about it being worth missing a writing day – so sweet. Our children certainly put us through the ringer, but it’s so worth it! Hope you have a happy Sunday 😀

You did have a busy week, but it sounds like some good times with you son, too. I remember those days of children wrangling and working around their schedules. Good luck with your work, and hope you feel better!

My deepest sympathy and a big hurrah for you Charles … what a schedule dear man, it’s marvellous that you got so much done with just the everyday stuff going on! Hope next week will be as calm as you hope.

That list exhausted me so I can only imagine how you’ve been feeling!
I’ll ask you in the coming week for your book release post so I can post it later.

    • Thanks. I don’t have the post set up yet. Probably be the one I set up next Sunday and I still have to decide on if I’m going to do a Saturday night TWUBS chat. Might post about that Tuesday evening and see what people think.

Oh man, Charles! But the going to school and the all important lemonade lesson makes it all worthwhile. Did you get a good lemonade recipe that you’re willing to share or any tips? And you still did such a huge amount of writing!
Hope you can rest up a bit tomorrow.

    • Don’t know. We made the lemonade and then drank store bought because there was no time to cool the room temp stuff off. Simple recipe though. I just hope to get a big amount of writing done this week too. The goal is to finish this book by the end of the month. Leaves me July and August for editing Books 8-11.
