Shadows

We follow you everywhere
And rarely are acknowledged
We are by your side
Or watching your back
Or leading you in silence
Yet we are an after-thought
Us shadows have unending pain
But you do not care
How could you know
How could you even understand
This life of ours is not a life
We live in a world
That we can never touch
That is torture
You will never understand

(From my 2010-2011 project of writing one poem a day for a year.  Deleted the Tumblr account when I finished and started getting spammed.)

    Shadows are very quick as well. Try to outrun them sometime.

    excellent poem, understand about deleting the social media account because of spam, I deleted linked in and twitter for the same reason. I got excited when I had a mail from a publisher saying they were excited about my project only to see it was a spam from a print on demand company, had loads since and other crap so have given up on most social media again. shame. Your shadow poem could relate to so much more, like following a character in a book, that’s the beauty of poetry, interpretation can be so much more and different with many readers. well done

      Thanks. Though one of the other reasons I deleted that old account was because I did the one poem a day for a year project I set for myself. It was to help get through a rough patch, so I didn’t really need it any more. In retrospect, it might have helped to keep it since I have a Tumblr account for my blog posts to go to.
