Reasons for Writing (Poem Set 2)

Change the World

You dream of shaping history
Redirecting mankind’s path
All with your words
Finely crafted by your hand
Meticulously chosen from your mind
You have the grandest power
To persuade the world
That your path is full of light

A Story to Tell

Lore handed down
From mouth to ear
Yet you fear its death
The written word is forever
Unlike the uttered tales
A book can spread across the world
Beyond the length of your voice

Resurrect a Genre

Your beloved area of focus
Mutilated and corrupted
By those who betray its heart
A new captain is needed
To guide the listing ship back home
Where it will be repaired
And return to the sea
Shining with its perfect luster

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Another set of good reasons! I like the story to tell. I often forget poetry was once a verbal way to pass down stories from generation to generation. The spoken word came first, then the written.

When I think of the history behind poems I think of Beowulf. There were many written prior, I am sure, but that is an epic poem that has stayed with me.
