Fear of Death

Grim Reaper from Castlevania

Grim Reaper from Castlevania

Our feared companion
Always by our side
Driving humanity to greatness

We attempt to thwart him
Extending our breath
To keep his scythe at bay

A constant chill
When we imagine our legacy
Worried what we leave behind

Will we be remembered great
Or a failure of our kind
That is if we are known at all

Death strikes fear in our hearts
Not only for our loss of life
But for the end of all our dreams

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

It isn’t the loss of life, or the end of my dreams… its the end of the dreams I haven’t even had yet. The goals I’ll never set. The experiences I’ll never get to work towards.
    Wonderful poem.

Fear of death. There goes my bucket list. At my age there have recently been several old friends (esp. since I used to hang out with folk about ten years older), people I grew up with, passing away. I am always sad about missing what we once shared, but also, knowing that I continue to enjoy things that they never will. For myself, I feel I have lived a long and productive life, and a terminal diagnosis would be tragic, but I don’t think I am afraid to go. I have this notion in my head that my spirit will leave this body and rest in an otherworldly realm until it is called upon again, and all I have learned in this life and lives before will be released into yet another mortal being to live again, in a life larger even than this one has been.
