Been a long time, but I’m doing a We Drink Because We’re Poets Poetry Prompt. At least if I can keep my hands from wandering off.
My attention slips
For the briefest moments
And off they go again
Right moves for a pen
Spinning it among its fingers
Left snags a slinky
Firing it at plastic cups
Get your act together, boys!
I need you to get work done
Right scratches my head
Left dances in the air
All ten fingers wiggle
Each playing their own piano
With a resounding clap
I knock their heads together
Now, my idle hands
BEHAVE!

I really like this one. I often think of my hands having minds of their own, because I’m a good mechanic, but I find it difficult to explain how I fix things. So I tell people who want to know how something works, “Don’t ask me–watch my hands and see what they do. My hands are smarter than I am.”

Interesting. My hands are always moving and fiddling with stuff. I wonder if creative and thinking types like artists and mechanics all have an idle hands thing. They move on autopilot at times.

No . . . not today. I don’t pay attention all the time. They’re usually wandering off though.

And then the snacks disappear – like it was all eaten – and I say, mouth, what did you do?!?!
As an aside, I think I need to go eat dinner. I’m making myself very hungry.
