Frozen Before the Ghast

Monday Poetry Prompt #2

It was not a dream or waking so much as a stilling of life

As my body failed to respond

And the specter glided from the closet crack

Thin and pliable like the shadow of a reed

Yet, I sensed it could rend me limb from limb

It moved about the room, ignoring my frozen plight

Through force of will my eyes were moved

Noting time ticked back and forth

Sharing my fear of moving forward

For all the night, I stayed in bed

Glued beneath my sheets as the phantom roamed

Inspecting all I owned and sniffing at the shadows

Until the sun peeked through the window slats

Driving the ghast back into the darkness

Leaving marks of shadow upon all it touched

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.
