Legends of Windemere: Family of the Tri-Rune is done with the third round of editing, which means it gets passed on to the wife for an outside opinion. Now, for a week of ‘vacation’ where I blog, get through my reading list, and outline a future series. Left Darwin in character profile stage, so I will aim to finish his story up and then move on to either Freya’s story or ‘The Elysium Saga’.
Still, nice to be done with that project and to start thinking about the 5th book, The Compass Key. I’m still deciding on if I’ll start that the week before I leave for the convention or save it for my return.

I definitely felt a ‘finally over’ sense of relief because this was the third round of edits. Now, to see how I cope without having a novel to work on. I started editing my novels and writing the new last May, so it’s been a while since I didn’t have that level of a project.

Well good luck with starting again. I guess that can feel daunting… but also really exciting. I already know that I’m probably going to need to go through at least 4 drafts but I’m actually looking forward to making it as it good as it can be.

I’m wondering if an author requires less drafts as they write more novels. My first book was revised at least 10 times as was the second. The third not as much, but still a lot. This fourth book is at 3 and I’m feeling kind of happy about it. I don’t know if I’ve somehow tricked myself or I managed to lock down a style that I can get mostly right at the beginning.

Yeah, I don’t know about that… it would be interesting to hear from other experienced authors to see how they feel about it.

I keep hearing that at least 3 editing runs is suggested. Still, I think it is possible for someone who did 20 editing runs on their first book can bring that down to 4-6 editing runs on a future book.
