Today was going to be a day of writing when my son wasn’t demanding that I chase him around the house. On a whim, I looked into something and spent the day planning what I would need when I go to my first convention. In late April, I will handing out CD’s with copies of my first book on them at the SUNY Oswego Storyteller’s Guild ARCON. SUNY Oswego is my alma mater and I was a member of the STG back in the day, so it will be fun. It also feels oddly comforting that my first convention will also be at the same place that Luke Callindor and Windemere were born.
That being said I now have the challenge of putting together the following:
- 200 CD’s with labels and covers.
- order 250 free business cards.
- 200 Legends of Windemere bookmarks.
- 1 Banner with a logo that I do not have yet.
- Fliers depicting all of the available books.
- 2-4 Standing displays for the table (being done by my scrapbooking wife)
It’s going to be a lot of work and my main concern is with that banner because I lack that logo. The bookmarks and fliers will be the cover art that is set to be done by January. I should also have Legends of Windemere: Family of the Tri-Rune (Book 4) done and on Kindle by that point.
So, I guess it was a productive day even though I didn’t get any major work done. At the very least I got a good amount of future promotional work done. I’d gladly accept any advice from people who have done this before. I can do the writing with the utmost confidence, but the marketing part is me flying by the seat of my clearance rack pants.
