20 Questions with Sally Cronin

Unknown's avatarDon Massenzio

Today we sit down with prolific blogger and author, Sally Cronin. I know that when I sit down at my computer every morning to look at my favorite blogs, hers is one that I am sure to check out. I’m excited to give her some space on my blog to tell you about herself, her work and her inspiration. Please enjoy this special installment of 20 Questions.

Q1) When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I was lost in my imagination as a child and spent quite a bit of time in my own company. I loved reading and they were usually books far too advanced for my age. I read my first Wilbur Smith at age 11 and was hooked. However, I felt overwhelmed by the number of pages and my writing began with poems until I was about 13 when regular essay writing at…

Small Update

Laptop might be dead as a door nail.  It no longer recognizes the charger.  What does this mean?

I might disappear from WordPress and fall horribly behind in my writing projects.  Twitter can still be done through my phone as can email.  Sadly, I can’t type a book on the thing and the WP app hasn’t gotten along with my phone in over a year.

Whelp.  I’m adding this shit to the list of reasons why 2016 can go suck a syphilitic camel cock until it’s eyes pop out.  Can you tell I’m angry?

4Wills Publishing Tour with A.M.Manay #RRBC

It is my pleasure to host a weekend tour by author A. M. Manay, author of the November Snow  supernatural fantasy series. Fiction Favorites is all yours.

Thanks, John.

Luka Lazarri is the primary villain in my November Snow supernatural fantasy series.  A vampire nobleman with a chip on his shoulder and many axes to grind, he longs to rule both the human and supernatural worlds.  In the series of texts below, he is communicating with his sinister intelligence director, Bertrand.  During this conversation set during the early chapters of She Lights Up the Dark (November Snow Book 2), they are discussing how to handle November and her friends as well as their plans for a series of terrorist attacks.  I find amusement in the incongruity of a 900-year-old vampire using modern technology, so I have a little fun with that here.  It’s followed by a blurb and excerpt…

I Had a Great Title For This Post . . . Then I Fell Asleep

That really is what happened.  One of those fun ideas that I thought would stick around and then I went to sleep.  Now I only have the knowledge that there was an idea and it’s gone.  Probably come back 5 minutes after this thing goes live.

The parents came back from their trip, so I’m back in my room to do work and only wandering out for nourishment.  At least I have some Russian nesting dolls from Russia now.  Actually, they’re Russian Nesting NY Giants Dolls.  In about a week and a half, the kid will be home from school until summer session.  This makes me wonder what I can do as far as writing because I’ll be out of editing projects.  At least if I can finish Book 13 by the end of the weekend, which might not happen.  Having a full house and no spot to call my own with a moat, barbed wire, and two very aggressive sparrows makes it hard to judge how long a project will take.  Then again, I didn’t do any better when I had the house to myself, so the problem is probably me.

And a frustrating problem it is.  Only because I remember when I was better at this as far as completion speed.  A year ago, I could write 3 chapter sections with ease.  Before that, I was cranking out 4 sections.  Now I’m lucky if I get 2 chapter sections and they’re not as long as the previous ones.  Am I being more careful with my writing to avoid info dumps, typos, and making sure everything is consistent?  Maybe.  Yet, another factor is that I keep wearing down by early afternoon.  Doesn’t matter how much sleep I get, coffee involved, or anything else.  My energy just drops.  I tried reading to revive myself, but forgot that I always fall asleep with a book.  Comes with a childhood of reading until I pass out at night, so my brain associates reading comfortably with sleep time.  I don’t know.  Maybe I’m just dealing with more errands, responsibilities, and headaches these days.  Not like I have any health issues since all of that got cleared up.

Tribe of the Snow Tiger is selling rather well considering it’s summer.  It got into the low 60’s for Top 100 Men’s Adventures, which is cool.  I’ve still got some marketing stuff coming up and I’m already looking at the next release.  Can’t be sure of how that will go since I still have some stuff in the air.  I’ll have to look into that next weekend.  This week is going to be crazy because my son is involved in two ‘shows’.  He’s reading part of a poem for his school’s Flag Day celebration and he’s part of an art show at the Children’s Museum, which means we get to go to a banquet or something.  This shouldn’t impact my projects too much as long as this weekend is easy-going . . . Well, I’m screwed.

Tomorrow is a zoo trip, so I might just pin one tweet and then disappear for the day.  This is an outing that’s been foiled twice in the last month due to weather.  Technically, it’s a new plan because we’re going to the bigger zoo instead of the small one that we kept failing to get to.  Still, this is full day fun.

I’m kind of jumping around here because I’m a tad scattered.  This week will see me setting up blog stuff for July.  This is going to be the Character Bios, 1 week of poems, 1 week about water adventures, 1 week about weather, and then a hodgepodge of what else I had on the list.  Should take me a few days to put them all together and that gives me time to decide on the summer project.  Do I tackle Book 14 of Legends of Windemere or do I try for Chasing Bedlam?  I’m torn because while the second option is easier to work with when there are more delays, the first book has been dead in the water for a long time.  Practically on delivery.  Part of me keeps wondering if there’s a market for this kind of story.  There’s also the whole thing about a series not catching fire until it’s 3-5 books into it.  Like I said, I need time to think.  I guess the Bedlam tale has already been started thanks to the test opening I did a while back.  That’s another plus.  On the other hand, I get to focus on some supporting characters in Book 14 since the champions are out of commission until Book 15.  I can’t explain without spoiling Book 13 and by now you know I’m being an ass.

Plans for the week?

  1. Finish editing Ritual of the Lost Lamb
  2. Complete Charms of the Feykin blurbs
  3. Make the July posts
  4. Finish Chasing Bedlam outline
  5. Biking, showering, sleeping, yada, yada
  6. Go to son’s shows
  7. Look over next Sin book to be outlined as a project for 1.5 weeks between school year and summer session.
  8. Think about August blog topics that will cover Charms of the Feykin topics, but only if pieces are locked in.
  9. Half ass a Teaser Tuesday and Questions 3 because I’m out of steam there.  Probably use an old book for the first and search the Internet for the second.
  10. Remember something else I was going to mention here, but it’ll happen long after this thing goes live.

Out of the Box Promotion with Charles Yallowitz

jorobinson176's avatarJo Robinson

Who said promoting your book couldn’t be fun? Thank you Charles for these fabulously funny suggestions.

A big thank you to the Jo for having me on for a guest post so soon after being part of the promotional tour for my latest book, Legends of Windemere: Tribe of the Snow Tiger. This is the 10th volume of this series and I’ve found that it’s one of the most difficult to do any promotion for. The entire story revolves around a heavy revelation of Timoran Wrath’s past and the twists that come along with it. It brings the big man into the spotlight for once, so I don’t want to spoil things by saying too much. Yet, I have to say something and I’ve come up with several methods with varying degrees of usefulness.

1. Just put one line from the book in a post behind a ‘Read More’ cut…
