Goal Post: First Week Back

Well, I didn’t get any writing done.  Should point that out right away so those who only care about writing progress can move on.

It was a crazy week back to work with everyone being off in some way.  Ended the last two days of the week feeling bruised and sore.  Friday morning was a challenge to physically get out of bed too.  The polar vortex making things freezing cold didn’t help by making my muscles even stiffer.  So, it was just a long slog to the end with a few blips of relaxation and fresh air.

I attempted my first ‘scenario’ post this week.  Not sure how well it went, but I’ll see how the others do.  Each one was done a little differently to see if one method works better than the others.  The whole point of these posts is to see if authors and readers can put themselves in the shoes of a character.  I didn’t want to give so much information that only one choice could be made, but I also didn’t want to be so vague that a person could choose something that it entirely out of character.  Guess you would call this a kind of thought experiment if you wanted to be generous.  This all stemmed from a feeling that people read stories with their own morals and ignore those of the characters when decisions are being made.

Really wish there was more to mention, but the week was just a mess.  Last weekend wasn’t that much better, so I’m stuck mid-chapter as far as the hand edits go.  Didn’t get to go out for Pokemon Go much with the weather too.  Had to go to bed pretty early every night in the hopes of recovering as much energy as possible.  Think I might have prepped a few posts for March, but that was it.  All I can say for sure is that I’ve ended things with my back repeatedly threatening to lock up on me.  Good thing I don’t have an early morning appointment and a bunch of other stuff to do today . . . Tomorrow isn’t looking much better.

2025 really is shaping up to be a pain in the ass as far as time management.  Next week might be a little easier, but only because my son has All County chorus rehearsals most days.  That means I can use the afternoons to get errands, chores, and other things done before I have to pick him up.  Unfortunately, this is also the week before midterms, so the two nights I have him will be spent studying.  It was chaotic last year too with us struggling to get everything done with such limited time.  At least it goes into a 3-day weekend, which could see me getting a bunch of the editing done.

Wish there was more to say, but I’m drained and got nothing left in the tank.  I’m physically, emotionally, and mentally done after everything that’s happened.  2025 is turning into as bad a year as 2024.  So, what are the goals?

  1. Help son study for midterms when possible.
  2. Type in Darwin & the Demon Game edits when possible.
  3. Pokemon Go to relax when possible.
  4. Get extra sleep when possible.
  5. Work on puzzle when possible.
  6. Work on March blog posts when possible.
  7. Finish watching season 1 of ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ when possible.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

I remember the days when my kids were in school and the chaos of exam preparation, projects, and requests for food. And having to drag information out of them!

  3. Yup. I kind of frittered my Saturday away, too. I keep running into these transition points and those are always difficult for me. It’s cold here, but we didn’t earn more than a skiff of snow. I wonder if all the California smoke will have a cloud seeding effect.
