Happy Birthday, Son

It’s my son’s birthday.  Simple as that for this post.  Been thinking of parenting in general, so here are some quotes to celebrate the day.  I am a little disappointed that the majority of what I found was about mothers raising children.  Not a lot out there for fathers, which really should change since more fathers are involved in parenting these days.

    I grew up with both parents, but it was my Dad who always had time for me. He was the one who helped with homework, despite working a 12 hour day. He was the one who taught me to read, to play the piano, to roller skate, to ice skate, to ride a bicycle, to hammer a nail. He was also the one who taught me to question, and to /think/.

    I’m pretty sure I grew up to be a sane, happy woman because I had an awesome Dad. Every child needs one. 🙂

      Thanks. Fully agree about needing an involved father. Sadly, I’ve run into a lot of people who think fathers aren’t necessary. Just needed to bring in money and fix things around the house. During my stay-at-home parent period, I got a lot of strange looks and outright criticism for not being the breadwinner.

        Ugh, those stereotypes are so destructive. Friends of mind decided to co-parent full time by both of them working part-time. They raised three lovely kids. Not saying everyone can do that, but if you are going to have kids then surely you have to commit to them right from the start. Sorry, rhetorical. I know a lot of parents of both sexes don’t. I’ve always admired you because you /do/.
