Goal Post: Not a Day Without Drama

Drama might be an exaggeration.  Yet, every day since last Saturday has had something big going on.  That’s why I feel like I’ve lived a month within the last 7 days.  Doesn’t help that the looming ‘life event’ is set to make next week another adventure.  Hopefully, it’s one that doesn’t last too long because it will be painful.  Let’s move on to something I can talk about.

I’ll just flat out say that I couldn’t get anywhere near my book.  I had hoped to work on it a few nights, but things kept happening.  Haven’t been sleeping well too.  All of that resulted in me crawling into bed earlier than usual.  I didn’t fall asleep, but I was lying in bed hoping I would.  Not much exercising beyond Pokemon Go outings too.  I need to make sure I bike more before I start putting weight back on.

Last Saturday was my niece’s 3rd birthday party.  Rain had us move things indoors, but the kids still had a blast.  It was fun watching them play while I ate more of the pretzels than I should have.  Made it home in time to do some Pokemon Go and get caught in the rain.  This would be a running gag for Sunday too.  The weather kept letting up for a while and I’d keep going outside thinking it was over.  Then, it would do that mist thing that’s annoying and gradually drenches you.  Not fun.

Monday was Yom Kippur, so I didn’t eat until the sun went down.  ‘Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ was my distraction game this year.  Didn’t get as far as I’d hoped, but I haven’t played it since 2002-ish.  Still, it got me to dinner, which was a foot long Subway meatball sub.  Ate it a bit too fast, so my stomach was giving me trouble.  Didn’t help that I had a 3 scoop sundae later, which meant I didn’t sleep well.  This set the stage for the busy work week . . . That’s not important.

My son had a minor health scare, which was over fairly quickly.  It still had an effect and left both of us nervous.  It caused some issues with mornings too.  Reward systems weren’t working and things got tense leading into a day with 1 quiz, 2 tests, and a take-home quiz.  I think we pulled out a victory in the end.  Hard to tell before all of the grades come in, but we’re all twitchy about next week.  Another stressor was him starting clubs, which threw off my schedule and gave us less time for homework.  It’ll take a week or so for us to settle into a routine.

Health-wise, I got my sleep test results and they’re what I expected.  I have to wait for insurance to weight in before I get my CPAP machine, which could take 2-3 weeks.  I still love how list of advice always includes ‘lose weight’ as if that’s so easy.  Sleep apnea makes it difficult to lose weight due to lack of energy and an increase in insulin resistance.  So, I might need the machine before I start making real progress.  The scary part is that one of my breathing episodes (shallow, faint breathing) lasted for nearly a minute.  Other times I stopped breathing for 10 seconds.  At least that’s how the information appeared.  I’m definitely counting down the days until I get this thing and then get used to sleeping with a mask/hose connected to me.

This coming week should be easier, but the ‘life event’ will be the real mood setter.  I’m hoping to get at least a chapter of Darwin & the Beast Collector done this weekend.  I get my flu shot, so we’ll see if that whups my butt.  I might have some writing time on Monday too.  If I’m lucky, I can get two chapters done.  Once the week really kicks off, I’ll be focusing more on preparing December blog posts to clear that docket.  Pokemon Go outings will be done as well because it won’t be raining or snowing on the days we typically go out.  It will all end with a 3-day weekend, which I have my son for and already have an exciting outing planned.  October has special ‘after hours’ events at the Bronx Zoo and I finally managed to get tickets to one of them.  Going to be a blast.

I can’t really think of anything else going on.  Life is just getting from one day to the next, but I’m starting to see light at the end of the tunnel.  At least with the health stuff and maybe the ‘life event’.  Writing is still going to be difficult since I only have weekends and occasional breaks.  I’m hoping that the reduction or elimination of my sleep apnea will restore some of my author energy too.  Fingers crossed.

So, goals of the week?

  1. Write more Darwin & the Beast Collector this weekend.
  2. Help son with homework.
  3. Handle ‘life event’.
  4. Have fun at work as usual.
  5. Exercise more, especially on days we don’t walk around playing Pokemon Go for 2 hours.
  6. Continue eating more chopped salads.
  7. Start watching ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ and maybe finish it.
  8. Puzzle time when I need quiet.
  9. Really should clean the bathroom.
  10. Seriously, that ‘life event’ has me nervous.
  11. Oh, get flu shot today.
