Questions 3: Where Do You Go for a Laugh?

I always enjoy putting comedy into my books.  The categories tend to be sight gags, attempts at wit, and slapstick.  At least those are the ones I can recognize since I’m not an expert on comedy.  I like to laugh and grew up on a ton of comedies like Marx Brothers, Laurel & Hardy, Three Stooges, Abbott & Costello, Mel Brooks, Lucille Ball, Bugs Bunny, and the list goes on.  Seriously, I probably should stop myself there or we’ll be here all day . . . Robin Williams and Eddie Murphy.  Okay, I’ll behave myself now.  (George Carlin)  So, let’s try a few questions about comedy:

  1. What is your favorite type of comedy?
  2. Who is one of your favorite comedians?
  3. Do you have a favorite joke, gag, etc.?

My quick answers:

  1. I always enjoy wit and wordplay.  Almost like a verbal sleight of hand.
  2. So many to choose from.  Robin Williams has always been a big favorite.
  3. One of the first jokes I ever understood was:  “One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas.  How he got in my pajamas I’ll never know.”

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

    1. What is your favorite type of comedy?
Usually something very quirky. Though I grew up watching The Three Stooges, Groucho Marx, Lucille Ball, and others who practice physical comedy, I now prefer witty dialogue and quirky characters who don’t realize they are quirky.
    2. Who is one of your favorite comedians?
Brian Regan. First saw him on Comedy Central.
    3. Do you have a favorite joke, gag, etc.?

Do you have a favorite joke, gag, etc.? Guy jumps out of a 30 story building. Make a mess on the street below. A crowd gathers and there is a priest who says aloud, “My poor son I hope you were prepared.” A man comes up to the priest and tells him he thinks the man was prepared. “How are you sure?” the Priest says. “I live on the fourth floor and as he came by my open window he said, ‘and now for the bloody thud.”‘

Do you have a favorite joke, gag, etc.? (Warning: It’s not exactly clean.) Man gets tattoo of his fiance’s name, Wendy on his penis. Goes with his newly wedded wife to Jamaica on their honeymoon. Makes a trip to the restroom and sees a Jamaican guy with a ‘W’ and a ‘Y’ tattooed on his penis and asks, “Is you wife named Wendy too?” Man answers, “Nah, mon, It says,’Welcome to Jamaica, mom, Have a nice day.” An oldie but goodie.
