I Had a Great Title For This Post . . . Then I Fell Asleep

That really is what happened.  One of those fun ideas that I thought would stick around and then I went to sleep.  Now I only have the knowledge that there was an idea and it’s gone.  Probably come back 5 minutes after this thing goes live.

The parents came back from their trip, so I’m back in my room to do work and only wandering out for nourishment.  At least I have some Russian nesting dolls from Russia now.  Actually, they’re Russian Nesting NY Giants Dolls.  In about a week and a half, the kid will be home from school until summer session.  This makes me wonder what I can do as far as writing because I’ll be out of editing projects.  At least if I can finish Book 13 by the end of the weekend, which might not happen.  Having a full house and no spot to call my own with a moat, barbed wire, and two very aggressive sparrows makes it hard to judge how long a project will take.  Then again, I didn’t do any better when I had the house to myself, so the problem is probably me.

And a frustrating problem it is.  Only because I remember when I was better at this as far as completion speed.  A year ago, I could write 3 chapter sections with ease.  Before that, I was cranking out 4 sections.  Now I’m lucky if I get 2 chapter sections and they’re not as long as the previous ones.  Am I being more careful with my writing to avoid info dumps, typos, and making sure everything is consistent?  Maybe.  Yet, another factor is that I keep wearing down by early afternoon.  Doesn’t matter how much sleep I get, coffee involved, or anything else.  My energy just drops.  I tried reading to revive myself, but forgot that I always fall asleep with a book.  Comes with a childhood of reading until I pass out at night, so my brain associates reading comfortably with sleep time.  I don’t know.  Maybe I’m just dealing with more errands, responsibilities, and headaches these days.  Not like I have any health issues since all of that got cleared up.

Tribe of the Snow Tiger is selling rather well considering it’s summer.  It got into the low 60’s for Top 100 Men’s Adventures, which is cool.  I’ve still got some marketing stuff coming up and I’m already looking at the next release.  Can’t be sure of how that will go since I still have some stuff in the air.  I’ll have to look into that next weekend.  This week is going to be crazy because my son is involved in two ‘shows’.  He’s reading part of a poem for his school’s Flag Day celebration and he’s part of an art show at the Children’s Museum, which means we get to go to a banquet or something.  This shouldn’t impact my projects too much as long as this weekend is easy-going . . . Well, I’m screwed.

Tomorrow is a zoo trip, so I might just pin one tweet and then disappear for the day.  This is an outing that’s been foiled twice in the last month due to weather.  Technically, it’s a new plan because we’re going to the bigger zoo instead of the small one that we kept failing to get to.  Still, this is full day fun.

I’m kind of jumping around here because I’m a tad scattered.  This week will see me setting up blog stuff for July.  This is going to be the Character Bios, 1 week of poems, 1 week about water adventures, 1 week about weather, and then a hodgepodge of what else I had on the list.  Should take me a few days to put them all together and that gives me time to decide on the summer project.  Do I tackle Book 14 of Legends of Windemere or do I try for Chasing Bedlam?  I’m torn because while the second option is easier to work with when there are more delays, the first book has been dead in the water for a long time.  Practically on delivery.  Part of me keeps wondering if there’s a market for this kind of story.  There’s also the whole thing about a series not catching fire until it’s 3-5 books into it.  Like I said, I need time to think.  I guess the Bedlam tale has already been started thanks to the test opening I did a while back.  That’s another plus.  On the other hand, I get to focus on some supporting characters in Book 14 since the champions are out of commission until Book 15.  I can’t explain without spoiling Book 13 and by now you know I’m being an ass.

Plans for the week?

  1. Finish editing Ritual of the Lost Lamb
  2. Complete Charms of the Feykin blurbs
  3. Make the July posts
  4. Finish Chasing Bedlam outline
  5. Biking, showering, sleeping, yada, yada
  6. Go to son’s shows
  7. Look over next Sin book to be outlined as a project for 1.5 weeks between school year and summer session.
  8. Think about August blog topics that will cover Charms of the Feykin topics, but only if pieces are locked in.
  9. Half ass a Teaser Tuesday and Questions 3 because I’m out of steam there.  Probably use an old book for the first and search the Internet for the second.
  10. Remember something else I was going to mention here, but it’ll happen long after this thing goes live.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. Too funny. I have gone to bed on ideas and sentences that I knew I would recall in the morning only to have them completely disappear. I’ve taken to keeping a note pad at bedside. Enjoy your time with your son 🙂

  2. I read where Kurt Vonnegut said it is impossible for a human to work for longer than four hours. After that, the mush and tired factor sets in. Maybe he was talking about you. Hope the zoo day comes off.

I’ve done the same thing – had a BRILLIANT idea and then forgotten it. but I don’t normally recall what it was! I see you are a list maker, like me. I love being able to check things off on a list – makes me think I am accomplishing something. Reassuring to see that someone else is experiencing decreased output – I am slower also, but I’m also more cautiously checking what I write off the top of my head, now that I’ve learned more “rules” and have had editors chew my work!

    • I really only do the official list on these posts. Most times it’s simply knowing what has to be done and tacking it in easiest to hardest. One reason is because most lists I make get taken by someone else and doodled on. Surprisingly, it’s not the kid.
