(EDIT: Guess what I plan on seeing for Valentine’s Day! If you said Deadpool then give yourself a cookie.)
Yes, I have Crossing Bedlam coming out next weekend as long as things don’t wrong. I mean, it isn’t like I have a history of last minute disasters or plans getting crotch-punched soon out of the gate. Sure, my plan to get the books for this year edited before next weekend and the kid’s break is dead. I mean it’s entirely possible (nope) for me to edit (HA!) a 276 page book by Friday (HELL NO!) even though I have some appointments (OF COURSE) and the Super Bowl (GO, BEER & HOT WINGS!) kills the weekend. Let’s just say I’m sticking to the idea that pizza is my reward for getting things done on time. So . . . no pizza for me until I get to start writing Ritual of the Lost Lamb and see if I can meet that deadline.
As you can tell, things didn’t go smoothly this week. I’m not exactly sure where things went wrong. I remember a few arguments because people around here are tripping over each other. Got a much needed haircut that took a chunk of the day since I prefer to walk there instead of drive. Then the snow/ice/sleet/rain/afternoon warmth of yesterday that cancelled school. The kid being home wasn’t a problem because I had to drive my dad to a doctor’s appointment . . . in the storm. Talk about harrowing since it was terrible visibility, idiots on the road, ice patches, and this is the first time I’ve driven in a snowstorm since 2014. Not to mention this comedy of errors:
- They coned off part of the parking lot at the doctor’s office, so that only part of it was plowed. It was set up after we went inside, so guess who owned the lone car that was on the wrong side of the cones. My dad also said we could stop at McDonalds like I promised my son since it didn’t look ‘that bad’. At least until we hit one parkway that had us driving INTO the storm and that was just nerve-wracking. We almost got stuck in the unplowed parking lot and there were ‘obstacles’ in the road home. To make matters even more amusing, the plows went down our block and cut me off from the driveway and parking on our side of the street. Don’t worry though. By the afternoon, we cleared those spaces and I hopped in my car to take the space . . . which the mailman took before I could finish my u-turn.
On the plus side, I got to claim the one outlet in the waiting room. The chairs were uncomfortable and I kept thinking people were watching me, but I did get some editing done. Only thing that went wrong was that ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ turned up on Pandora and not singing to that is a battle. The other people in that waiting room didn’t seem too happy to be there and me breaking into an off-key version of Queen probably wouldn’t have helped me.
That’s been my week and I’m hoping next week is lower key, so I have even a sliver of a chance to get my editing done. The kid gets a week off after Valentine’s Day, which means I won’t be doing much writing then. Maybe starting on a plan for Chasing Bedlam and getting posts ready for March. Well, I’ll be promoting the new book too, but I’m learning that there’s only so much I can do there. Money is tight, which means I have to cut some paid ads and I still have no Facebook luck. Needless to say, I’m stressing a bit and hoping things fall into place. There are other things adding to the stress, but I’m not going to get into them here.
So, what is the plan?
- Finish editing Charms of the Feykin.
- Start and hopefully finish editing The Spirit Well.
- Fiddle with future ideas.
- Clean and prep for Super Bowl.
- Watch Super Bowl.
- Hopefully publish Chasing Bedlam.
- Watch ‘Deadpool’ next Sunday.
- Reclaim the Deadpool plushie my sister got me and the kid claimed after 5 minutes.

I don’t remember getting so much time off from school when I was the kids age. Do you? My grandchildren are off for one holiday after another or for many of those teacher workdays which H has to work on. And then you have snow days thrown in! Happy publishing! ~Elle

I don’t remember it either. Winter/Christmas break, a few small holidays, and then Spring/Easter/Passover break. It’s even stranger when you factor in that most households need both parents working. So you either take that time off, bring the kid into work with you, or spend money on a sitter.

When they close schools they should shut down everything. It would be much easier wouldn’t it? Of course that wouldn’t work either!

Yeah. Then you have parents and kids at home with nothing to do. Just can’t win.

Best of luck with publishing, and may this next week go better than the past one!

Thanks. As long as there’s no snow, I think I have a shot.

My tank just ran empty, so I’m catching up on blogs. You have a lot on your plate. I think I’d have to adjust the deadlines if it were me. It’s almost like Bealzebub has a devil set aside for you.

If Bezzie isn’t doing it himself. Thing is that even adjusting the deadlines earns the same result. Always one headache after another. Still deciding on if I want to edit tonight or tangle with building a route for the next Bedlam story. Figure out Alabama and then Arkansas drives me nuts. Fix that and now I can’t make sense of the Georgia stuff. Really far out of my knowledge range here.

Road trip… Just sayin’

Only in my mind, man. Because the wallet would cry tears of cheap leather. Think I figured something out. Just need a city to set things up and then find a ‘sneak in’ spot to Florida. Was looking at Jacksonville, but just realized there’s a swamp nearby.

Hope your Super Bowl day goes well. Sounds like the rest of your plans may drift into the iffy category.

I’m sure they will. Maybe I’ll get lucky and edit a chapter before the party. At least I’m sorting through one problem.

Sounds like, even with the comedy of errors, you’re holding your own. I’ve had to back off rescuing the daughter from her many crises and I refuse to feel guilty. (Despite her daily calls for one thing or another, usually things that need my immediate attention). Decided if she can’t let me know ahead of time, the answer is no.Why is it that people think we’re available because we do leave the house to work????

I think because they associate working from home as having extremely flexible hours. I get told that I can always stay up late, work hard on weekends, or just wake up earlier. Never actually works that way.

Argh what a nightmare driving in the storm but well done for doing it and arriving home safely. I think you`ve earned some big relax time. Hope you get to see Deadpool.

Deadpool is next weekend. This one is Super Bowl after cleaning and prepping for a party. Hoping to get some biking and editing in beforehand though.
