A glorious weekend
That starts before the light
Not with a whisper
Or an alarm
Or the urging call of nature
The child can be heard talking
Announcing his arrival
Going back to close his door
Then hurrying across
Imaginary dog in tow
Our door opens with a creak
And a declaration of the day
Before he clambers into bed
Sprawling on our legs
And chatting up a storm
Our silence means nothing
Groans ignored
Questions firing at lightning speed
We dread to check the clock
Yet he tells us what he sees
Now he runs from room to room
Trains strewn across the floor
Invisible pet behind him
Every noise a sign of play
Never shall we sleep-

How did she fall back asleep?

Brought back memories of two toddlers both inciting the other. Well done. “How did she go back to sleep?” indeed.

Glad I only have one. Then again there are days where I feel like I have two.

Some people just have the gift of falling back asleep. I’m not one of them. If the sun’s risen and I wake up, I’m a goner. Looks like you have the same problem. My condolences, friend.

Same here. For me, I get up before the sun some days. If the alarm is set for 6 AM then I wake up at 5:50 for some reason. The funny thing is how many people told my wife that ‘you will become a light sleeper after the baby is born’. I could march an elephant through the room while blasting Metallica and she’d only roll over.

Yikes. Always amazed that you don’t escape to a locked room and sleep for a week.

Those days are long gone for me. One day you’ll miss it though. Mark my words. π

I’ve heard that. Hard to believe right now though. Think every parent has that stage.

I know. I used to find it hard to believe myself. π

To sleep. Perchance to dream.
Is this what awaits me? *shudder*

Different for everyone. It’s funny how the biggest piece of advice always revolves around sleep and the lack there of. It helps to nap when you get the chance.
