Week of Pains, Gains, & Scrambled Brains

First, a video/song that is stuck in my head.  Felt the need to share:

I’ve been out of sorts since Thursday and doing my best to imitate being human.  Not sure how successful I was.  The reason for this is a nasty ear infection combined with a bunch of earwax that decided to camp out on the eardrum.  For anyone unsure of what this means, I’ll sum it up this way.  Hurts like a nail to the side of the head, equilibrium is shot, taste buds kind of off, deaf as a roll of toilet paper, exhaustion, confused, and it took an hour to write one paragraph for a Fizzle scene.  People seem to enjoy telling me what to pour into my head when I have ear problems too.  Well that and one friend reminding me of the brain bugs from Wrath of KahnNeedless to say, I haven’t done much writing since then.  I had to rush to a late night clinic, which helped out.  Then I returned today because the pain was getting worse and they flushed the ear.  Feeling much better if not a slight bit waterlogged.  Might finish that Fizzle thing tonight if two nights of terrible sleep wasn’t gnawing on my energy.

For more comedy, anybody that follows my non-author page on Facebook might have seen that this happened on the 10 year anniversary.  Plus side, my wife and I didn’t have anything planned until next weekend.  The reason is because the whirling dervish that I call a son had his first tumbling show today:

So we delayed everything to watch this.  His ADHD was in true form this time.  Put him in front of a crowd and he doesn’t care about orders.  He’ll just smile, jump, laugh, and try to sit with us instead of going with his group.  All in good fun and he enjoyed the Friendly’s lunch.  Hoping to get him into more gymnastics come the Fall.

Those are the big events of this . . . wait!  I forgot about Ichabod Brooks & the City of Beasts, which came out on Monday for 99cents and I’m sure everyone who loves me has bought a copy.  That really just means I bought a copy, so I hope those who politely tolerate my existence did the same.  The short story had a great first day and has kind of fallen asleep since Thursday.  Man, that day simply hated me.  A big thank you to everyone who has bought a copy and written a review.  I really appreciate it.

I will be a rarity next weekend!  So look for me on several guest posts, which I will comment on come Sunday or Monday.  I might be retweeting and responding to stuff on my blog with the help of my phone.  I’m just not allowed to bring the laptop.  Why is this in bigger font?  I hit a button by accident and am too lazy to fix it.

That’s better.  So what are the goals for the week?

  1. Laundry and packing on Thursday.
  2. Getting to ‘vacation’ spot in one piece on Friday.
  3. See ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and ‘Jurassic World’.  The first one was eliminated due to me not being able to hear things.
  4. Continue writing Book 11 and pray I can get a good clip going to meet my June deadline.
  5. Figure out why the screen keeps zooming in and a new window opens.  Am I touching the finger pad?
  6. Fiddle a bit with whatever the idea on Monday is.  Can’t even figure out the genre, but it might be Post-Apocalyptic.  Not sure what counts as Dystopian.
  7. Heal completely.
  8. Try for some biking, which one should never do with an ear problem.  Not unless they surround the thing with pillows.
  9. Ponder the existence of the pinky toe.  Do we really need it?

Going to finish up by asking a mild question.  Are there any characters that you want to see get a feature in the Teaser Tuesday?  I always find it hard to choose, so maybe help from the audience will give me an idea.  I do have this one set up though, so this is for the future.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Who takes precedence in Book 11 – are you at a stage where you can share one of the characters with us as they take the new journey? Also, I agree with John – I’m fascinated by Nyx and Sari, so that would be fun 😀

    • 2 characters take precedence, but it’s in a way that spoils chunks of Book 10. They also kind of take 2 others with them. It’s one of those books where a bunch of subplots get cleaned up and a few things turn on their head. 10 and 11 are definitely going to be hard ones to pull from. Thankfully, Nyx and Sari have a lot of early interactions that I can pull from.

Excellent! I’ll look forward to scenes with Nyx and Sari then. By the way. I really enjoyed Ichabod Brooks. I’ll be writing a review over the next few days for the weekend. It was a grand and exciting adventure 😀

      • Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. Now I have to find a good Sari/Nyx scheme for a week from this Tuesday. Thinking about it, the two end up having lengthy conversations more than fighting alongside each other. I think because Sari tends to be going off on her own since she’s the thief. A lot of their stuff that I can remember are downtime conversations and goofing off.

That’s always enjoyable. There’s nothing like the fun of seeing how characters interact with each other 😀

      • Going to be harder than I thought. Sari debuts in Book 3, but spends 2 books away from the entire group and another separated from Nyx. Leaves me with a lot less material to work with. Like I said, she tends to go off on her own.

Maybe you could just share them separately then – over the space of a few weeks. I’d like to know what Sari gets up to when she goes off on her own!

      • I found one joint conversation that might require an ‘adult warning’. Shows how the two of them interact and reveals more about Sari. Think I’ll use that and then grab other scenes as they come about. 🙂

Bless your heart. I can surely relate. I have a problem with recurrent ear infections and see an ENT. It’s enough to make you as crazy as a dog with ear mites. Hope it’s over for you soon.

  7. So weird, I, too, have some ear trouble these days, although it’s not earwax. The doctor said it’s liquid getting trapped behind the eardrum. Must be that time of the year.

I loved mini-Charles. Are we sure it’s ADHD and not just sugar high? 😉

    • He doesn’t eat that much sugar and he’s been diagnosed. I recently read an article that said the ‘sugar makes kids more hyper than they usually are’ isn’t actually true. Anyway, he’s more high functioning autism than ADHD according to the paperwork. Need to read it again since both were mentioned.
