Week of Guests and Fun

Did some outlining this week and relaxed while waiting for the verdict on some friends visiting from out of town.  They made it for a few days and we had a lot of fun.  All of the boys got together and I’m remaining vague here because I don’t know if my friends want me mentioning everyone on my blog.  I will say it brought a tear to everyone’s eyes to see them playing and bonding.  My son doesn’t get to play with other kids his age that often and he tends to be the odd one out due to his ‘issues’.  There wasn’t any problem here and he’s currently sitting downstairs wondering where his new friends are.  Not looking forward to the explanation of when they go home.

I’m going to be working on the excerpt picking for my website today.  I’m looking at the options and I can do it one of two ways.  The first is to upload a downloadable file, but I don’t know how many people would trust that.  The second is to create a window that has the excerpt and people can scroll through it.  Length isn’t an issue in #1, but #2 means I’d have to keep it short and divide things with the title of the book.  Any suggestions and opinions here would be appreciated.

Monday I will start writing ‘Tribe of the Snow Tiger’ while seeing if I can do any very early promo work for ‘Sleeper of the Wildwood Fugue’.  The latter won’t be out until early April, but I should start doing something.  If things work out then I might even do a pre-order thing for the late summer/early fall book.  These are all things I went over with my friend/editor/mentor/unofficial head smacker.  My weakness has always been me reverting back into the author mode when the promotional stuff gets too hard.  I know writing the next book is the best way to keep the others selling, but something has to be done while I’m writing.  We’ll see what happens as time goes on since we’re still figuring out what we can do.  Guest posts and interviews can work, which I’ll look for.  The only challenge is that I never know what to write in a guest post.

So, what am I going to do this week?

  1. Start writing Book 10 a.k.a. ‘Tribe of the Snow Tiger’.
  2. Console the son who doesn’t understand when friends live long distances away.
  3. Work a bit more on the outlines when time permits.
  4. Set up excerpts on website.
  5. Set up an appointment for new author photo.
  6. Cut down on the junk food eating.

Here’s a pic of the visiting friend and I.  Her Englishman is the one taking the picture.  I look like an idiot though because I never know how to smile and I was trying not to laugh at the playfulness of the boys.  You can see how that author photo is going to be tough and why I try to stay in Black and White photos.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

My best friend is an author? You could have mentioned that before I got here. His wife and kid and parents are pretty awesome, and to be honest? He’s not so bad.

  4. Glad you had a great visit. I remember my daughter crying her eyes out when some friends kids had to leave. Very sad.

Glad you had so much fun with … you know who. As far photos are concerned, I hate having mine taken unless I’m in control (which means I get to take several photos and then photoshop the one I like best). Recently I got a new photo badge for work because my boss thought I looked “20 years older” in my original photo, which was taken in 2008 when I had short hair. Now my photo is up-to-date but the coloring came out weird. My skin is as red as a lobster and my “smile” looks pretty strained. Thanks, Boss ;( Wish I had my old photo badge.
