Nameless Finale and A Fresh Book

Hulk vs Superman

Hulk vs Superman

So I’m staring at these empty pages in the first notebook.  Though I guess you can’t call it first since I have at least 10 others that range from 2 years old to high school days.  This is the first of the updated, everything in Windemere notebooks.  Of course this means I need to get another one for the next grouping of stories.  All of this creates questions:

Do I work on the Grand Finale?

No idea if I ever brought this up in detail, but I’ve mentioned that the last book I ever write will be the Grand Finale of Windemere.  This tends to get people thinking I’m going to disappear in a year or two.  Keep in mind that I need to finish the other THIRTY SERIES/ONE-SHOTS first.  Yet, I do need to keep track of certain things to have this war between the remaining heroes and villains.  Structure is a question as well as who I take to the end.  How do I even organize such a thing?  It’s going to be put into the back of this notebook, so I’m thinking adding characters to the list as I bring other series to an end.  I only have a faint idea of how to do this.  Each chapter revolves around a hero or villain, which helps focus the story.

Which grouping do I tackle next?

There are 2 big series and groupings that I can think of taking on.  One is the ‘Project Phoenix’ stuff, which has a few issues.  It’s a lengthy series where nearly every book focuses on a new hero that has been awakened.  Only the first and final 2 books will be all hands on deck.  The big issue is that I keep finding other stories on my list that can fall under this umbrella.  Leaves me wondering if clearing more off the list would be smarter and that makes it easier to decide on what goes here.

The other series is 9 books that follow a young thief who always finds himself in these epic adventures.  Each one will be 4 acts with new and old heroes, multiple villains, and a lot of globe spanning.  I haven’t touched this series in a long time.  Oddly enough, the outline I made for the first book in college still holds up enough that I need only do a few tweaks.  The other 8 will be a challenge since I have various versions of some and absolutely nothing about the others.  Another headache with this series will be that I’d have to stop at certain points to work on another.  This is to avoid spoilers since the main character travels to areas that are awakened or founded in other stories.  Not to mention interacting with other heroes.  Right now I’m leaning toward this one, but I’m finding my mind keeps wandering.

Third Question

I had something, but I don’t remember.  All I know is that I’m gearing up for tackling the next book in Legends of Windemere.  I might start it on Monday, but I really just want to get it done by the end of March or early April.  If I can get 2 books written before summer break then I’m golden.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I think it’s cool that it’s such a big series. Readers will still want more after the end of it though. have you ever thought about Legends of Windemere board games and so on?

    • That’s not my department. 😉

I’m guessing if it gets enough traction, the series will show up in other mediums. I’m hoping readers follow the other heroes that will turn up in Windemere. Even if it’s just to see if one of the champions turns up. Otherwise, people may be very confused about that last book.

  2. I was struck by the fact there are thirty stories before the end. I can now take comfort that I won’t see the ending so I don’t have to feel bad when it happens. I may call you on the last day and ask for a preview.

  3. My thought would be to keep at least an outline of events in each novel and how they point to your finale. After the ten you’re written already, you must have some ideas for the story arc for your finale. Keep updating your outline as you write more books and new ideas are generated or other ideas are closed off by events not yet written.

    • That’s the way I’m thinking of going. Even as I finish outlining future books, I can get an idea of who is going to be around for the grand finale. Legends of Windemere is the only one that I do have an idea for right now.
